Where Highlife Meets Bamford: A Bold New Chronograph Collaboration

Frederique Constant expands its Highlife collection with a striking new collaboration: the Highlife Chronograph Automatic Bamford Special Edition. This limited release unites Frederique Constant’s approach to accessible mechanical watchmaking with the bold design language of Bamford Watch Department. The result is a model that stays true to the Highlife’s technical foundations while presenting an entirely reimagined exterior.

Titanium Case With Crystallised Texture

The watch stands out immediately with its case construction. It measures 41 mm in diameter and 14.62 mm in height, crafted from grade 2 titanium that undergoes a crystallisation heat treatment at 1,200°C before receiving a black DLC finish. This treatment gives the surface a distinctive, uneven texture while preserving the lightweight and corrosion-resistant properties of titanium. A convex sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating protects the front, while rectangular chronograph pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock integrate cleanly into the profile. The screwed caseback carries engravings and features a smoked sapphire window that maintains the watch’s dark, monochromatic aesthetic. Water-resistance is rated at 100 metres.

Monochrome Dial With Turquoise Highlights

The dial reveals the strongest influence from Bamford. It features a matte-black surface arranged in a classic tri-compax layout, with the 30-minute counter positioned at 3 o’clock, the 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, and the small seconds at 9 o’clock. Applied silver-tone indices and matching hands filled with white luminous material provide clear readability in all lighting conditions. Turquoise accents appear selectively across the dial, most notably on the hands and accents of the subdials, along on a substantial portion of the central chronograph seconds hand. The minute and seconds track around the edge of the dial is printed in white, while turquoise is used again for elements of the tachymeter scale. The emphasis throughout is on strong contrast and functional clarity. To maintain symmetry and visual balance, this special edition does not include a date display.

Powered by the FC-391 Automatic Chronograph Calibre

Inside the watch is the FC-391 calibre, an automatic chronograph movement developed from the reliable Valjoux 7750 base and refined further through Frederique Constant’s collaboration with La Joux-Perret. The movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, incorporates 26 jewels, and offers a power reserve of approximately 60 hours. Through the smoked sapphire caseback, the finishing becomes visible, including Côtes de Genève on the bridges and a contrasting gold-tone rotor.

Interchangeable Straps and Limited Edition

The Highlife Chronograph Automatic Bamford Special Edition is delivered with three interchangeable straps, allowing the watch to adapt to different styles and settings. The box includes a black rubber strap for a sporty look, a turquoise rubber strap that reflects the dial’s colour accents, and a black nubuck calf leather strap for a more refined feel. Production is limited to 100 numbered pieces, and the watch is priced at € 4,495.

Seiko has teamed up with Bamford Watch Department to release a new limited-edition model that brings a bold retro-futuristic aesthetic to the Seiko 5 Sports collection. This collaboration blends archival Seiko design elements with Bamford’s signature style, resulting in a watch that is as visually striking as it is functional.

Case and Bezel

The watch comes in a 42.50 mm stainless steel case, inspired by two classic Seiko references: the SKX models of the 1980s and the Seiko 5 Sports of the 1960s. The case features smooth, flowing lines and a protected crown positioned at 4 o’clock for comfort and practicality. On top sits a unidirectional rotating bezel with a full 60-minute scale, where the first 20 minutes are highlighted in orange for enhanced legibility. While it offers 100 meters of water resistance, the model is primarily designed for swimming and surface-level water activities rather than deep-sea diving.

Dial and Hands

The standout feature of this watch is its dial. It uses a light blue translucent surface, allowing a partial view of the inner workings of the day-date complication. The days of the week are displayed on an inner ring and can be set in both English and Japanese, while the date sits on the outer ring.

The hands are another key element of the design. The seconds hand takes the form of an orange lollipop, the minute hand is shaped as a bold orange arrow, and the hour hand adopts a plongeur style in blue. All of them are treated with luminescent material, as are the rectangular hour markers, ensuring excellent readability in low-light conditions. In addition, the day disc and the central strip of the included NATO-style strap also feature lume, creating a unique glowing effect that reinforces the retro-futuristic character of the watch.

Bamford Signature Details

The Bamford Watch Department’s presence is highlighted throughout the design. The Bamford logo is positioned at 6 o’clock on the dial, engraved on the caseback, and featured on the metal loop of the nylon strap. The watch is delivered in a special edition box, designed to echo the aesthetic of Seiko’s vintage 1960s-style cases, adding a further collectible element to the release.

Movement

Inside, the watch is powered by the reliable automatic calibre 4R36, which offers a 41-hour power reserve. This movement provides hacking seconds and hand-winding capability.

Availability and Price

The Seiko 5 Sports x Bamford Limited Edition is limited to 2,025 pieces worldwide. It will be exclusively available throughout October at the Seiko Boutique on New Bond Street in London, UK, before becoming available more widely. Priced at GBP 400, it delivers a distinctive design with playful yet practical details, combining Seiko’s watchmaking expertise with Bamford’s eye for contemporary reinterpretations of classic motifs.

Introducing the Bamford X Revolution GMT Joe Cool

Snoopy is the main character of the Peanuts cartoons, he is a beagle that along with his bunch of friends faces various adventures, for 50 years he was probably the main star of the cartoons and who was lucky to grow forward from the 50s until the beginning of the new millennium, as I probably did, it benefited from an era in which Snoopy’s cartoons were very present, both on television and in the comic books that our parents check out for us at a nearby kiosk.

Snoopy was that typical dog that did not conform to his condition and therefore in his various adventures, he embodied several characters, what is known as Alter Ego in Latin, which means “the other me”, and one of Snoopy’s alter egos best known is “Joe Cool” in which Snoopy wears a red sweater and puts on sunglasses and embodies the character of a college student.

It’s “Joe Cool” Snoopy who is the main star of the latest collaboration between Bamford and Revolution. According to the words of George Bamford and Wei Koh of the founders of Bamford and Revolution respectively the main objective was to create a fun watch that could alleviate the dark days caused by the pandemic and bring joy to people, awakening a smile whenever they look at the watch.

This is not the first watch produced by Bramford in which the main star is the Snoopy, as early as 2019 to celebrate Snoopy’s 70th-anniversary Bramford launched a similar edition with the Snoopy Superhero on the dial, with a color palette that alternated between the yellow, black and white of Snoopy. The watch came with the GMT function, two-color internal bezel, and date window.

The new Bamford X Revolution GMT Joe Cool, presents itself with the same steel case of the 70th anniversary of the Snoopy, with an appreciable 40mm in diameter by 11.7mm thick, crown at 3 o’clock, and bezel crown at 10 o’clock with 100m of water resistance. The dial and two-way inner bezel are in white with the Snoopy “Joe Cool” in the center of the dial, where the Snoopy arms function as the hour and minute hands, an additional GMT hand with “Woodstock” at the tip, the yellow bird that always accompanies your friend Snoopy, and lastly a date aperture at 3 o’clock. Luminescence in Snoopy, hour and minute hands, Woodstock GMT tip, and 24-hour inner bezel. Inside, the watch is equipped with the Sellita SW330-2 automatic movement that offers up to 42 hours of power reserve. The watch is offered with a black Cordura strap with white stitching at a price of €1,600 and limited to 100 pieces. Also noteworthy the watch comes in a special package in the shape of the Snoopy’s doghouse with a luminescent coating that makes it light up, just like the watch, at night.

The Pink Dial Project

One of the things I like most about the watch world alongside the friendly community is the sense of solidarity the industry embraces, often on its own that makes us feel proud to belong to this tiny community. And so it is with pride that I am back here today to talk about a very interesting project the Pink Dial Project, which aims to fight breast cancer, a fatality that affects us all around the world, directly or indirectly by hand from family and friends.

The Pink Dial Project is a project created by Time+Tide, Fratello, Eye of Jewelry, Revolution, The Rake with Eric Ku, the project consists of raising funds for the research and treatment of breast cancer. Among several initiatives is the challenge for watch brands to design a watch of any of their models, which contain a pink dial or contain at least some pink elements, these watches will be auctioned in October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness month, through Loupe This and the total amount of money raised will be donated to selected breast charities, one in each of the following countries United States, Australia, Netherlands, Singapore, United Kingdom, and Switzerland.

There are 15 watch brands that have already confirmed their participation and they are BAMFORD, BVLGARI, BALTIC, CHOPARD, IWC, MAXIMILIAN B SSER, MONTBLANC, ORIS, PANERAI, PIAGET, RADO, ROGER DUBUIS, SINN, TAG HEUER, and ZENITH. However, other brands have also shown willingness to participate and, therefore, it is likely that in the coming weeks the number will increase.
