Omega Launches Special Edition Seamaster For 37th America’s Cup

While awaiting the arrival of the new Seamaster spotted on Daniel Craig’s wrist at the recent edition of the Paris Olympic Games, Omega has just brought a new edition of its iconic diving watch with a view to the 37th America’s Cup.

In addition to once again being the Official Timekeeper of the oldest regatta race in the world, Omega is the sponsor of Emirates Team New Zealand, which from August 22nd to October 27th will defend the title won in the last race edition.

But let’s get to the point, the new Seamaster Diver 300M comes again in a 42mm wide case, which contradicts or not the speculated downsize of the Seamaster observed in the famous English actor, featuring the traditional twisted lugs design, unidirectional bezel with ceramic insert, which appears here in blue with two 5-minute pre-start sections delimited with a regatta start flag and also the inscription “Start” in addition to the usual 60-minute stopover. Screw-down crown with guards at 3 o’clock, a Helium escape valve at 10 o’clock, sapphire crystal on the front and back with the last one painted in the shape of the race’s trophy and the “B” for Barcelona, the city where it starts the regatta, and last but not least, 300m of watertightness.

The opaline-white ceramic dial once again features a wave pattern laser-engraved in positive relief, with applied hour markers and hands outlined in blue and filled with Super-LumiNova, highlighting the minute hand that starts from the pinion in blue and from the middle turns into red and the second hand that comes with a counterweight in the shape of the race trophy.

At its heart, the In-house Caliber 8806 automatic movement, reaches 25,200 Vph and offers up to 55 hours of power reserve.

The watch is set in a special blue box with red stitching and zipper closure available in options: a blue rubber strap or a steel bracelet, with prices starting at €6,900.

Our Opinion

This edition comes as a breath of fresh air after editions in recent years came with the chronograph complication, returning to the traditional dive watch format, where less becomes more.

Highlights include the white dial, which is on the rise again and is increasingly gaining fans, including us, and the absence of the date window, which seems to be becoming a standard and which we also applaud.

In short, the watch is undoubtedly the most discreet of the recent editions, which may lead some to consider it boring, but we like boring watches, and at the same time it serves as an appetizer for what may come soon.
