Alfa Romeo’s Group B Dream Reborn: The Alma Sprint

Reviving a Legend: Alma Brings Alfa Romeo’s Group B Icon Back to Life

In the 1980s, Alfa Romeo’s Sprint 6C was poised to make waves in the Group B rally scene, but the project was abruptly shelved, leaving car enthusiasts to wonder what might have been. Now, 40 years later, Portuguese automotive company Alma has resurrected this lost icon with a modern twist, introducing the Alma Sprint—a meticulously reimagined machine that marries 1980s rally spirit with contemporary innovation.

Design: A Modern Classic

Alma has taken the original Zagato-designed Sprint 6C and transformed it into a unique masterpiece. The bodywork, crafted mostly from advanced composite materials, features muscular fenders and seamlessly integrated panels, inspired by rally legends like the Lancia 037 and Maserati Shamal. Modern Hella projectors, housed in billet aluminium, and sleek Vitaloni mirrors enhance the car’s aggressive profile.

Inside, the Alma Sprint combines 1980s rally charm with modern comfort and safety. The cockpit has been redesigned for better ergonomics, featuring new seats, a relocated steering wheel, and a custom aluminium gear selector. The interior is luxuriously trimmed in Alcantara and corduroy, with every detail meticulously crafted to create a perfect blend of style and function.

Performance: Raw Power Meets Precision Engineering

The heart of the Alma Sprint is a re-engineered version of Alfa Romeo’s 4-cylinder boxer engine, now at 1800cc. Alma has thoroughly modernized the engine with redesigned heads, custom camshafts, and a stainless-steel exhaust while keeping it raw with Dellorto carburettors.

The engine produces 160 horsepower, channelled to the front wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox. The car’s chassis, suspension, and braking systems have been upgraded to provide a thrilling, yet controlled driving experience. Weighing just 880 kg, the Alma Sprint is light, agile, and incredibly responsive.

Limited Edition Exclusivity

The Alma Sprint will be produced in a limited run of 20 units, each tailored to the customer’s exact specifications. Alma offers a fully bespoke experience, from sourcing the ideal donor car to customizing every aspect of the build. Deliveries are scheduled for the third quarter of next year, making the Alma Sprint a must-have for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
