Nomos Metro Neomatik Shines In Orange For Ace Jewelers’ 50th Anniversary
In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Ace Jewelers unveils a striking duo of limited-edition timepieces in collaboration with Nomos Glashütte. Drawing from their longstanding partnership, the Amsterdam-based retailer and the German watchmaker present two Metro Neomatik models, each limited to 50 pieces, distinguished by vibrant two-tone orange dials that pay homage to Dutch heritage.
A Rare Canvas: The Metro
While past collaborations between Nomos and Ace Jewelers have spotlighted models like the Orion and Tangente, this release marks the first time the Metro takes center stage. Designed by industrial designer Mark Braun, the Metro is recognized for its wire-style lugs, ultra-minimalist aesthetic, and high attention to detail—elements that have remained unchanged since its 2014 debut.
The decision to use the Metro for this limited edition required Braun’s approval, a testament to the integrity of the design. Known for its blend of contemporary urban elegance and vintage-inspired cues, the Metro lends itself surprisingly well to a more expressive color palette.
Dutch Design Meets German Craftsmanship
Both models feature polished stainless steel cases—35mm for the smaller version and 38.5mm for the larger—measuring a slender 8.1mm and 8.4mm thick, respectively. Each is topped with a domed sapphire crystal that complements the curvature of the case while providing clarity and scratch resistance.
Where these watches truly stand out is on the dial. Saturated in tones of orange that echo the national color of the Netherlands, the dials use a layered approach to color. The 38.5mm version pairs a soft, sunlit orange base with a deeper burnt-orange subdial. The 35mm reverses this scheme, offering a bolder main dial with a lighter seconds counter, creating two visually distinct timepieces that feel related yet individual.
The design includes signature Metro details: dot hour markers, an ultra-legible minute track with alternating numerals and indices, and the signature thin hands with needle-like tips—engineered for precision and visually referencing technical instruments.
DUW 3001: A Compact Powerhouse
Inside both watches beats the Nomos DUW 3001, a remarkably slim in-house automatic movement measuring just 3.2mm in thickness. Featuring the brand’s proprietary swing system and typical Glashütte decorative flourishes—including ribbed plates, perlage, purple jewels and thermally blued screws—the movement is visible through a sapphire crystal caseback.
The DUW 3001 operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a 43-hour power reserve. Despite its slim build, it delivers robust performance and exceptional timekeeping, embodying Nomos’ commitment to in-house engineering.
Availability and Pricing
Each size is limited to 50 individually numbered pieces, and for collectors, Ace Jewelers is also offering 10 matching-numbered pairs for those wishing to own both versions. The 35mm Metro Neomatik is priced at €3,400 including VAT, while the 38.5mm version retails for €3,540.
This bold orange duo not only reflects the national pride of the Netherlands but also elevates the Metro line into new territory, celebrating five decades of Ace Jewelers with color, craftsmanship, and cohesion.
