Swatch Revives 1980s Breakdance Vibes With the “Break Free” Keith Haring Collection
Let’s kick off the day with something exciting! Back in 1984, Swatch made waves by hosting the World Breakdance Championship, sparking a collaboration with renowned street artist Keith Haring. Known for his bold, colourful art, Haring’s partnership with Swatch lives on even though he passed away in the early ‘90s. Today, his work is immortalized in highly sought-after Swatch special editions, cherished by collectors.
Swatch now revives Haring’s legacy with its new “Break Free” collection, a trio of watches that bring his vibrant art back to life. Two of the designs are inspired directly by Haring’s iconic style, while the third draws inspiration from Swiss designers Schmid and Muller, creators of the 1984 championship winner watches.
The “Break Free” collection is part of Swatch’s “What If?” series, featuring a unique 33mm square case made from eco-friendly Bioceramic material.
The collection includes the Break Off model, which features a black case, a green strap, and a dial that pops with shades of pink, green, and orange, embodying Haring’s playful, dynamic energy. The Break Loose model presents a sleek, monochromatic black version, disrupted only by bold white lines on the dial. It showcases the Swatch World Breakdance Championship poster designed by Keith Haring. The Break Time model is designed with an orange case, black strap, and a dial in vibrant green, pink, and yellow. This model takes inspiration from the watches given to the winners of the 1984 Championship, designed by Schmid and Muller.
The case back also comes with the hand-drawn Swatch logo on the battery cover by Keith Haring, adding a personalized artistic touch to each timepiece.
Each watch is priced at €130 and is available at Swatch boutiques and online. Don’t miss this chance to own a piece of history—whether you’re a Keith Haring fan, a collector, or a street culture enthusiast, these watches are a must-have!
