TAG Heuer expands its Carrera Chronograph collection with a new limited edition timepiece that pays homage to the brand’s maritime heritage, specifically referencing the rare and collectible Seafarer models created for Abercrombie & Fitch in the mid-20th century. Limited to 500 pieces, this edition blends historical design cues with the modern functionality and reliability of the contemporary Carrera line.

A Familiar Case with a Refined Vintage Touch

The watch is housed in a 42mm stainless steel case, a size that aligns with modern standards while nodding to historical chronographs from the brand’s archives. Water-resistant to 100 metres, the case supports everyday wear and occasional nautical use. Unlike the more recent Glassbox Carreras, this version opts for a slim fixed bezel framing a flat sapphire crystal—a design choice directly inspired by vintage Heuer Seafarers, which featured similarly restrained profiles.

A Dial Rooted in Historical Reference

The dial is finished in a striking opaline blue, contrasted by a white peripheral flange with triangular hour markers echo the look of the original Heuer 2444, one of the foundational references in the Seafarer lineage. The sub-dials, rendered in silver with a textured azurage pattern, integrate yellow and turquoise accents. Notably, all three chronograph hands—central seconds, 30-minute counter, and 12-hour counter—are finished in yellow, adding a vivid and functional splash of color that enhances visibility and ties back to the original Seafarer aesthetic.

While the new edition does not include a tide indicator—a hallmark of original Seafarer models—it introduces a chronograph minute counter with turquoise-blue quarter segments, subtly recalling that functionality in spirit. The running seconds are displayed at 6 o’clock above a small, unobtrusive date aperture.

Powered by the TH20-00 Calibre

Inside the case beats the TH20-00 calibre, TAG Heuer’s in-house automatic chronograph movement. Based on the Heuer 02 architecture, the TH20-00 features bi-directional winding and delivers an 80-hour power reserve. The column wheel and vertical clutch architecture ensure precise chronograph engagement. Visible through a sapphire caseback, the movement is decorated with a clean, functional finish appropriate to the Carrera’s sport-oriented heritage.

Strap and Finishing Touches

Complementing the oceanic theme, the watch is paired with a perforated dark blue calfskin leather strap, accented by light blue stitching. It fastens with a stainless steel folding clasp for comfort and security. While the original Seafarers were conceived as practical tools for sailing, this modern reissue is positioned more as a refined sport chronograph with strong visual ties to TAG Heuer’s nautical past.

The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Limited Edition is limited to 500 pieces and will be available starting today – July 10, 2025. The watch is priced at € 7,350 and will be offered at select TAG Heuer boutiques and authorized retailers.
