SWATCH Presents the Centre Pompidou Collection
Swatch Art Special was created in 1985 with the aim of making art accessible to everyone, and in 2018 it took another step in that direction with the launch of the Museum Journey line, where the most renowned museums around the world make their art known through recreations of these artworks on watches.
After the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid, the Louvre Museum in Paris and the MoMA in New York, now comes the Center Pompidou in Paris.
This new collection comprises six watches that reinterpret different and emblematic masterpieces.
Portrait of Dedie by Amedeo Modigliani
It is inspired by the portraits that captured Paris society at the beginning of the 20th century. The watch, in addition to having the artist’s signature on the strap, is distinguished by the dial with a metallic finish and the many details in pink, such as the case, buckle, clasp and hands.
Carousel by Robert Delaunay
It depicts movement through colour and is inspired by the French artist’s third version of the painting after having destroyed the first two versions. The watch, in addition to the different colours that make up the dial and strap, adds even more colour through the calendar wheel printed in different shades.
Eiffel Tower by Robert Delaunay
Inspired by the work that needs no introduction and has become one of the best-known monuments in the World. The watch features proportions faithful to Delaunay’s original work and numerous details along with the dial, strap and hands in shades of red, yellow, orange and blue.
The Frame by Frida Kahlo
It reinterprets one of the most famous self-portraits of the Mexican painter. The watch displays a mirror image of the artwork on a pink base and bright festive colours of the painting.
Blue Sky by Vassily Kandinsky
All the blue that extends from the case to the strap shows the fascination of this colour for the Russian artist. The watch also houses some of the intriguing characters of the original artwork.
Red, Blue and White by Piet Mondrian
It recreates the geometric abstraction that dominates fashion, architecture and design. The watch also features a matte black dial and oversized hands.
The Swatch x Center Pompidou collection is now available worldwide through the brand’s official stores and retailers, and can also be purchased at the Center Pompidou boutique and at centrepompidou.fr with prices starting at €80.
