Studio Underd0g And Ahmed Seddiqi Introduce The Chan3ad Chronograph

Studio Underd0g has joined forces with Dubai-based retailer Ahmed Seddiqi for a limited-edition chronograph inspired by one of the UAE’s most prized gamefish. Named Chan3ad, the Arabic word for kingfish, the new edition brings the playful character of Studio Underd0g’s Series03 together with a distinctly regional design language.

The collaboration follows Studio Underd0g’s participation in Dubai Watch Week and introduces a number of visual details specifically created for the Middle Eastern market, most notably the use of Eastern Arabic numerals and a dial inspired by the appearance of the kingfish.

A two-layer dial inspired by the kingfish

The most distinctive element is the multi-layered dial, which uses contrasting colours and textures to interpret the fish.

The upper dial is blue-grey and heavily textured, taking its inspiration from the kingfish’s scales. Beneath it sits a pink sunburst-brushed layer, representing the flesh of the fish. The unusual combination gives the chronograph considerable depth, with the two dial surfaces creating a clear distinction between the upper and lower sections.

Studio Underd0g adds small yellow details to complete the culinary reference. The tip of the central chronograph seconds hand and the hand for the 30-minute counter are finished in yellow, evoking the lemon traditionally served with cooked fish.

The Arabic numerals are particularly important to the design. Rather than simply applying Arabic text as a decorative detail, the entire hour scale uses Eastern Arabic numerals, giving the watch a strong connection to its Dubai destination.

A compact stainless-steel chronograph

The Chan3ad retains the proportions of the Series03, with a 38.50 mm stainless-steel case measuring 13.60 mm thick. Almost 2 mm of that overall height comes from the domed sapphire crystal, which contributes to the watch’s vintage-inspired profile.

The dimensions remain relatively compact for a mechanical chronograph, with a 44.50 mm lug-to-lug measurement and 20 mm lug width. The proportions should therefore make the watch considerably more wearable than many contemporary chronographs, particularly for those who prefer smaller cases.

The sapphire crystal also provides a clear view of the layered dial while reinforcing the retro character of the design.

Manually wound Sellita movement

Inside is the manually wound Sellita SW510 M, specified by Studio Underd0g as a “Custom Special” version.

The movement operates at 4Hz, or 28,800 vibrations per hour, and has been regulated to an accuracy of ±5 seconds per day. It provides a substantial 63-hour power reserve, allowing the watch to remain running for more than two days when fully wound.

The movement also incorporates a hacking mechanism, allowing the seconds hand to be stopped when setting the time.

As with the wider Series03 concept, the manually wound chronograph movement adds an interactive element to the watch, requiring the wearer to wind it rather than relying on an automatic winding system.

Two straps, two personalities

The Chan3ad is supplied with two different straps.

The first is a 20-to-16 mm tapered stainless-steel Milanese mesh bracelet, which gives the watch a more technical and contemporary appearance while complementing the stainless-steel case.

The second is a more unusual 20-to-16 mm genuine salmon-skin strap, supplied with a stainless-steel buckle. Its material ties directly into the watch’s fish-inspired theme while introducing another texture to the overall package.

The combination gives owners the option of changing the character of the watch without requiring additional purchases.

Limited to 100 pieces

The Studio Underd0g x Ahmed Seddiqi Chan3ad is limited to 100 individually produced pieces.

It is priced at AED 9,600, approximately € 2,300, and is available exclusively through Ahmed Seddiqi.
