Stowa Adds Sunray Spark To Its Classic Flieger
Stowa expands its iconic Flieger lineup with the new Flieger Classic Sunray models, bringing a vibrant twist to a design rooted in German aviation heritage. Inspired by the original Stowa pilot’s watches from 1940, these pieces maintain the no-nonsense legibility of the traditional Flieger while introducing rich sunray blue and sunray green dials for a contemporary update.
Heritage-Inspired Design
The new Flieger Classic Sunray is available in two dial configurations. The first is the Type A layout, which presents a clean and open display with large white Arabic numerals and a minute track on the outer edge, all coated in Super-LumiNova for excellent readability in low light. The second option is the Type B layout, which rearranges the information into an inner hour circle surrounded by a bold 60-minute scale, also treated with luminous material for clarity.

The blue version of the dial glows with a vivid blue tone, while the green version takes inspiration from the deep foliage of Germany’s Black Forest. Both colours are enhanced by a subtle dégradé effect that gently darkens toward the edges of the dial. This gradient is soft and restrained—less intense than a traditional fumé finish—ensuring that the dial remains highly legible, staying true to the utilitarian character of a Flieger watch.
Sizes and Movements
To suit different wrists, the Type A version is available in either a 36 mm or 40 mm stainless steel case, while the Type B version comes exclusively in 40 mm. Stowa offers a choice of two Swiss movements: the Sellita SW200 automatic calibre for those who prefer the convenience of self-winding, and the Sellita SW210 manual calibre for enthusiasts who enjoy the traditional ritual of winding their watch by hand. Both movements are reliable, well-finished, and reflect the brand’s commitment to precise timekeeping.
Straps, Bracelets, and Pricing
Buyers can select from either a leather strap for a more classic pilot’s look or a stainless steel bracelet for a sportier feel. Pricing depends on the chosen configuration, starting at approximately € 1,333.36 for the automatic version on leather and reaching around € 1,484.27 for the manual version on steel.
A Fresh Take on a Classic Pilot’s Watch
The Stowa Flieger Classic Sunray brings colour and modern flair to one of the most enduring pilot’s watch designs without compromising its functional essence. With its choice of sizes, movements, and vibrant dials, it offers a versatile and stylish way to wear a piece of German watchmaking history.
