De Bethune has introduced a new interpretation of its celebrated Starry Varius series — the — now presented in a more compact 40.60 mm case while retaining the striking celestial artistry and high-end technical innovations that define the line. This latest edition mesmerizes with a rare red-leaning burgundy dial, achieved through De Bethune’s signature heat-oxidation technique on polished titanium.

A Night Sky Forged in Fire

The mirror-polished titanium dial is the heart of the DB25xs’s allure. By precisely heating the surface, De Bethune creates a thin oxide layer that refracts light into deep shades of burgundy with subtle purple undertones — a striking departure from the collection’s classic blue tones.

Artisans then set tiny gold pins by hand to represent stars, and a laser micro-mills delicate 24k gold leaf across the surface to form a shimmering Milky Way. As with other Starry Varius models, the star map can be customised to match the night sky from any date and location that holds personal significance to the wearer.

While the case diameter has been reduced from 42 mm to 40.60 mm, the signature open-worked lugs, finely fluted crown, and slim 8.80 mm profile remain intact. The result is a watch that feels more versatile on the wrist without sacrificing the architectural elegance that has made the DB25 series an icon of contemporary haute horlogerie.

Cutting-Edge Horology Within

Inside the DB25xs beats the manual-wind calibre DB2005 — one of De Bethune’s most technically sophisticated two-hand movements. It offers an impressive six-day power reserve thanks to its double self-regulating barrels, which maintain consistent torque while sustaining a contemporary 4 Hz beat rate. Precision is further enhanced by a silicon escape wheel that minimises friction, and an aerodynamic titanium balance fitted with white gold weights that optimises stability during oscillation.

De Bethune has also equipped the movement with its proprietary flat hairspring, engineered to breathe concentrically like a traditional overcoil, improving isochronism and timekeeping stability. To protect this finely tuned regulating organ, the brand’s signature triple parachute shock protection system allows the entire polished balance bridge to flex slightly under impact, reducing shocks while adding visual dynamism to the movement’s architecture.

Movement finishing is clean, modern, and meticulously executed, with brushed titanium bridges and subtle hand-polished details that reflect De Bethune’s preference for technical sophistication over decorative excess.
