Squale SUB-37 Legend: Big Dive Credentials In A Smaller Package
Independent Swiss watch brand Squale continues to refine its dive watch expertise with the new SUB-37 Legend—a model that blends vintage-inspired design with modern tool-watch specifications. Built with a clear focus on functionality, the SUB-37 Legend delivers professional-grade performance in a compact and highly wearable format.
A Compact Case with Strong Presence
The SUB-37 Legend stands out immediately thanks to its restrained proportions. The stainless steel case measures 37 mm in diameter, while the bezel extends slightly to 38.50 mm, visually emphasizing the dial and enhancing legibility. This thoughtful sizing strikes a balance between vintage charm and everyday practicality.

Thickness is equally well managed. The case measures just 10.70 mm without the crystal and 12.60 mm including the box-shaped sapphire glass, keeping the watch slim enough for daily wear while maintaining the robustness expected of a dive watch.
Despite its tool-oriented nature, the case is far from basic. Polished bevels along the lugs introduce subtle refinement, adding depth and contrast to the otherwise utilitarian design. Each case is also individually numbered, reinforcing the watch’s attention to detail.
Built for Underwater Performance
Functionality is central to the SUB-37 Legend. The watch features a screw-down crown and caseback, ensuring a solid 300-meter water resistance rating—well within professional diving standards.

The box-style sapphire crystal is treated with an anti-reflective coating, improving clarity in bright conditions and underwater environments alike. Surrounding it is a 120-click unidirectional rotating bezel, engineered for precise timing.
Notably, the bezel insert is crafted from K1 glass, a hardened mineral material that offers enhanced shatter resistance compared to traditional sapphire. This makes it particularly suitable for a watch designed to handle demanding conditions.
Clear and Functional Dial Layout
The dial follows a classic diver configuration, prioritizing legibility. A deep black base provides strong contrast for the applied hour markers, which combine circular and baton shapes, alongside a prominent triangle at 12 o’clock for quick orientation.
Both the markers and the pencil-style hands are filled with Super-LumiNova Old Radium, ensuring visibility in low-light conditions while adding a subtle vintage tone to the overall aesthetic.

Framing the dial, the bezel features a clearly defined minute track and luminous markings, allowing for accurate time tracking during dives.
An interesting detail is the presence of two logos: the Squale signature at 12 o’clock and the shark emblem at 6. This dual branding references the brand’s origins as a case manufacturer, where its logo signified the maker of the watch case—even when produced for other brands.
Reliable Swiss Movement
Powering the SUB-37 Legend is the Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement in a no-date configuration. Known for its reliability and ease of servicing, this Swiss-made calibre offers a power reserve of approximately 38 to 41 hours.

Its inclusion reinforces the watch’s tool-watch philosophy: dependable, straightforward, and built for long-term use.
Strap and Wearing Experience
The watch is paired with a high-quality rubber strap from Bonetto Cinturini, crafted from black vulcanised rubber. This type of strap is widely appreciated for its durability, flexibility, and comfort—particularly in aquatic environments.

A sturdy stainless steel pin buckle completes the setup, ensuring a secure fit whether on land or underwater.
