Squale Galeazzi Artiglio: A 600-Metre Diver With A Rare Wet Indicator
Squale continues to explore its rich diving heritage with a new limited-edition timepiece created in collaboration with Italian diving equipment specialist DRASS. The new Galeazzi Artiglio commemorates the centenary of an important invention by Roberto Galeazzi, while bringing back one of the most distinctive features once found on military dive watches: a mechanical wet indicator.
The collaboration connects two companies with long histories in underwater exploration. DRASS traces its origins to 1926, when Roberto Galeazzi developed a pressure-resistant spherical structure designed to support deep-sea exploration. Among the technology’s notable applications was the recovery of the wreck of the SS Egypt in 1932.
For Squale, the anniversary provides an opportunity to revisit another chapter of diving history through a modern 600-metre professional-style diver.
A vintage-inspired 600-metre case
The Galeazzi Artiglio is housed in a 39.50 mm stainless-steel case, with a thickness of 12.60 mm. Its relatively compact dimensions give the watch a more restrained presence than many contemporary professional divers, despite its substantial 600 metres of water resistance.

The case design combines the familiar proportions and functional architecture associated with Squale dive watches with details intended to recall equipment from the mid-20th century. The result is a watch that retains a distinctly tool-watch character without resorting to oversized dimensions.
The watch is completed by a screwed-on solid stainless-steel caseback, contributing to its robust construction and helping achieve the impressive 600-metre water-resistance rating. Rather than using the caseback as a decorative element, Squale keeps it firmly aligned with the watch’s professional diving character.
The wet indicator returns
The most unusual element of the Galeazzi Artiglio is positioned directly above 6 o’clock.
The dial incorporates a wet indicator, a small disc made from specially treated paper that changes colour when exposed to moisture. Its purpose is straightforward: if water enters the case, the indicator provides a visible warning that the watch’s water resistance has been compromised and that it should be inspected.

The concept has a strong connection with military diving watches from the 1950s and 1960s. Similar moisture indicators were used on watches such as the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Mil-Spec, where reliability underwater was a critical concern.
Rather than simply reproducing the feature as a historical curiosity, Squale has made it one of the defining visual elements of the Galeazzi Artiglio.
Above it, on the underside of the sapphire crystal, Squale has applied the DRASS diving helmet logo. Because the marking is positioned beneath the crystal, it creates a floating appearance when viewed from the dial side and reinforces the connection with professional diving equipment.
A blue dial with functional detailing
The dial is finished in Pantone 295U blue, giving the watch a distinctive deep-blue appearance associated with the underwater environment while maintaining strong contrast with the applied elements and hands.

The design remains relatively restrained, allowing the wet indicator to become one of the focal points without compromising legibility. The combination of traditional diving-watch typography and modern construction keeps the overall aesthetic firmly rooted in Squale’s historical design language.
At 12 o’clock, the Squale branding is accompanied by the essential depth rating and automatic designation, while the lower portion of the dial is deliberately kept relatively clean around the moisture indicator.
Fully luminescent bezel
The unidirectional diving bezel features a K1 mineral crystal insert, with the entire bezel designed to provide a luminous display.

This is another detail that prioritises underwater legibility. Rather than limiting lume to a single bezel marker, the construction allows the diving scale itself to remain visible in low-light conditions.
Combined with the luminous hands and dial markers, the bezel contributes to the Galeazzi Artiglio’s purpose as a functional dive instrument rather than simply a vintage-inspired accessory.
ETA automatic power
Inside the watch is the Swiss-made ETA 2824-2 automatic movement, a long-established calibre that has become one of the best-known Swiss automatic movements in modern watchmaking.
The 25-jewel automatic movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides up to 42 hours of power reserve, combining automatic winding with a familiar hours, minutes and central seconds display.
Its established architecture also makes it a fitting choice for a watch inspired by traditional professional diving instruments. The use of a proven mechanical calibre reinforces the deliberately traditional character of the Galeazzi Artiglio while providing a practical and serviceable foundation.
Two straps included
Squale supplies the watch with two straps, giving it different options depending on how it is intended to be worn.
The first is a sand-coloured microfiber strap, whose tone complements the utilitarian character of the watch and gives it a more vintage-inspired appearance.

The second is a blue rubber strap with a mosaic pattern, providing a more contemporary and explicitly aquatic option.
The two-strap configuration also suits the watch’s dual character: historically inspired in its details, but built as a modern 600-metre diver.
Limited to 500 pieces
The Squale Galeazzi Artiglio is limited to 500 examples worldwide and is priced at € 1,890.
The watch is available for preorder through Squale, with deliveries scheduled to begin on September 22.
With its combination of compact dimensions, 600-metre water resistance, screwed solid caseback, ETA 2824-2 automatic movement and, most notably, the revived wet-indicator system, the Galeazzi Artiglio takes a relatively obscure piece of diving-watch technology and places it at the centre of a modern limited edition.
