Sinn U15, U16 & U18: Exclusive Divers Crafted From Decommissioned Submarines
Sinn is celebrating two decades of crafting dive watches from German submarine steel with the launch of three exclusive limited editions. These new models are made from decommissioned Type 206 submarines U15, U16, and U18, showcasing Sinn’s dedication to innovation and robust engineering. To handle the complexities of working with this unique material, Sinn collaborated with the esteemed watch case manufacturer SUG, ensuring exceptional durability and craftsmanship.
Each of the new Sinn dive watches is housed in a round stainless steel case derived from German submarine steel, featuring a primarily brushed finish. The unidirectional bezel, adorned with a 60-minute scale in black and blue, benefits from the brand’s signature Tegiment technology for enhanced scratch resistance. Additional design elements include drilled lugs, a sapphire crystal, and an oversized crown positioned at 4 o’clock. The screwed solid case back is engraved with the silhouette of the respective submarine, its name, individual numbering, and water resistance details.
The dial design embraces an underwater theme with a striking deep blue hue and a 3D bubble motif, reminiscent of air bubbles rising through water. Luminescent material fills the three center hands, as well as the minute and second track, ensuring optimal legibility in low-light conditions. A date window at 3 o’clock enhances functionality, while the brand’s logo at 12 o’clock is complemented by the specific model name and the nautical miles traveled during the submarine’s commission at 6 o’clock.
The Sinn U15 is the most compact of the trio, featuring a 41mm case with a thickness of 11.20mm and a water resistance of 500 meters. It is powered by the reliable Sellita SW300-1 automatic movement, equipped with 25 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, and an impressive 56-hour power reserve. The Sinn U18, on the other hand, boasts a larger 44mm case with a height of 15.50mm and an outstanding 2,000-meter water resistance. It is also driven by the Sellita SW300-1 movement, ensuring the same high level of performance. The Sinn U16 falls between the two in terms of specifications, featuring a 44mm case with a thickness of 14.70mm and a water resistance of 1,000 meters. This model operates on the Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement, incorporating 26 jewels and running at a frequency of 4Hz, with a power reserve of up to 38 hours.
All three watches come fitted with an H-shaped stainless steel bracelet, secured with a signed folding clasp, ensuring both comfort and durability. Each model is strictly limited to 1,000 pieces, making them highly sought-after collector’s items. The Sinn U15 and U16 are priced at €2,990, while the U18 commands a slightly higher price of €3,230, reflecting its superior depth rating.
For watch enthusiasts and collectors seeking a timepiece that combines history, durability, and precision, the new Sinn submarine steel dive watches offer an unparalleled blend of engineering excellence and maritime heritage. With their robust construction, innovative materials, and limited availability, these models are set to become iconic additions to Sinn’s legacy of high-performance dive watches.
