Japanese retailer TicTac has a long-standing relationship with Seiko, producing a series of limited collaborations that often remain exclusive to the domestic market. One of the most recognizable of these partnerships is the SZSB series, originally introduced in 2019 to mark TicTac’s 35th anniversary. In 2026, Seiko and TicTac quietly expanded this line with the release of the SZSB036, bringing back a familiar design with a few subtle but meaningful updates.

Design and Dial

The Seiko x TicTac SZSB036 features a highly restrained and symmetrical dial layout. The watch is fitted with a blue-green sunburst dial that changes character depending on lighting conditions. Applied metallic hour markers are used throughout, with Arabic numerals appearing only at 12 and 6 o’clock, reinforcing the balanced and uncluttered design.

A printed minute track runs around the outer edge of the dial, while a framed date window is positioned at 3 o’clock, adjacent to the crown. The central seconds hand is finished in gold, providing a contrasting accent against the cooler dial tones.

One of the defining design elements is the use of Seiko’s cathedral-style hands, most commonly associated with the Alpinist collection. Their polished finish and bold shape ensure excellent legibility while contributing a classic, almost mid-century character to the watch.

Case and Dimensions

The watch is housed in a 40 mm stainless steel case, aligning it with modern sports-watch proportions. The case combines brushed and polished surfaces, giving it a versatile appearance suitable for everyday wear.

The crown is positioned at 3 o’clock and remains unsigned. The case profile is relatively slim for an automatic Seiko, allowing the watch to sit comfortably on the wrist. Water resistance is rated at 100 meters, making it suitable for daily use without positioning it as a dedicated tool or dive watch.

Bracelet and Wearability

A notable update with the SZSB036 is the inclusion of a stainless steel three-link bracelet. Earlier TicTac anniversary editions were delivered on leather straps, while current models are also available with a steel bracelet, increasing durability and practicality for everyday wear..

The bracelet features brushed outer links and a folding clasp, reinforcing the watch’s sporty yet understated aesthetic and bringing it closer to the look of classic steel sports watches.

Movement and Caseback

Powering the SZSB036 is Seiko’s in-house automatic caliber 4R35. The movement offers hacking seconds, hand-winding capability, and a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. While positioned as an entry-level automatic movement within Seiko’s lineup, it is widely regarded for its reliability and ease of servicing.

The watch is fitted with a transparent caseback, allowing a view of the movement—an appreciated feature in this price segment.

Availability and Pricing

The Seiko x TicTac SZSB036 is officially available only through TicTac in Japan, though international buyers can purchase it via TicTac’s global forwarding service. The retail price is set at JPY 55,000, which translates to approximately USD 347 plus taxes.

At this price point, the SZSB036 represents excellent value, offering an in-house automatic movement, solid steel construction, and a distinctive design rarely found outside the Japanese domestic market.
