Seiko Revives An Apollo-Era Design In New SRPL91 And SRPL93
Seiko expands its Seiko 5 Sports collection with two new references—SRPL91 and SRPL93—both inspired by a historic design from the late 1960s. Drawing directly from the Seiko 6119-8460, a model recognized for its distinctive case and worn by NASA Flight Director Gene Kranz, these timepieces bring a touch of vintage heritage to a contemporary lineup.

Case and Design
The SRPL91 and SRPL93 feature compact, cushion-shaped stainless steel cases that reflect the original proportions of their predecessor. Measuring 38.20 mm in diameter, 44.70 mm in length, and just under 13mm in thickness, they offer a versatile fit suitable for a wide range of wrists. The case has a brushed finish on the top surface with polished sides and integrates a recessed crown at the 4 o’clock position—a typical characteristic of Seiko 5 designs.

One of the notable features is the inclusion of a bi-directional rotating bezel with a metallic insert and an engraved 60-minute scale. While not intended for professional diving, the 100-meter water resistance offers sufficient durability for everyday use and recreational swimming.
Crystal and Caseback
Both models are equipped with a box-shaped Hardlex crystal, which is more in line with the styling cues of the original watch than the more common domed crystals seen in other Seiko 5 Sports models. The screw-down solid stainless steel caseback is engraved with the individual number of the limited edition, reinforcing the collector appeal of the release.
Dial Options
The SRPL91 and SRPL93 are differentiated by their dial finishes. The SRPL91 features a sunray silver dial with black markings, while the SRPL93 comes with a matte black dial and contrasting white print. Both models incorporate applied hour markers and hands filled with LumiBrite for legibility in low-light conditions. The day-date display, located at 3 o’clock, features a reversed color layout—white for the day and black for the date—matching the styling of the vintage reference.

The text and layout on the lower portion of the dial also take cues from 1960s-era Seiko models, including font choices and overall dial symmetry.
Movement
Powering both timepieces is the automatic Seiko Caliber 4R36. This reliable movement operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz) and offers a 41-hour power reserve. It supports both hacking seconds and manual winding, making it suitable for modern mechanical watch enthusiasts who value utility and tradition.
Bracelet
Each watch is delivered on a stainless steel bracelet with a brushed finish. The design emulates a vintage multi-link bracelet aesthetic, although it is constructed using larger single-piece links for comfort and durability. The bracelet is secured with a folding clasp featuring a push-button release.

Availability and Pricing
The Seiko 5 Sports SRPL91 and SRPL93 will be produced as limited editions of 9,999 pieces per reference. Both models are scheduled for release in July 2025 and carry a retail price of € 460.
