Seiko Refreshes SKX Heritage With Four New 5 Sports Models
Seiko continues to evolve its popular 5 Sports SKX collection, first introduced as a tribute to the iconic Seiko SKX dive watches of the 1990s. In 2025, the Japanese watchmaker unveils four new automatic models catering to both urban style seekers and outdoor adventurers. This latest release includes two classic designs on stainless steel bracelets and two bold editions on rubber straps—making the Seiko 5 Sports SKX as versatile as ever.

Classic Meets Contemporary: Steel and Rubber Strap Options
The new Seiko SKX 5 Sports models retain the signature stainless steel case design that has made the collection so recognizable. With dimensions of 42.5mm in diameter, 13.9mm in thickness, and 46mm from lug to lug, the case features a well-balanced combination of brushed and polished surfaces. It is topped with a curved Hardlex crystal and includes a unidirectional bezel with a diving scale and an inverted triangle at 12 o’clock. A pull-push crown is located at 4 o’clock, while a screw-down exhibition case back and 100 meters of water resistance ensure durability.

Although the case remains unchanged, the latest models introduce four vibrant dial colors. The SRPL83 features a striking blue dial, while the SRPL85 opts for a classic black dial. Both of these come paired with a three-link stainless steel bracelet secured by a folding clasp, making them perfect choices for those navigating a busy, cosmopolitan lifestyle. In contrast, the SRPL87 and SRPL89 bring bold personality to the lineup with yellow and orange dials respectively. These two adventurous models are fitted with comfortable rubber straps and feature black bezels, suited for active and outdoor use. The SRPL89 goes a step further with gilt-colored hour and minute hands and matching golden bezel markings, giving it a sporty, retro-inspired flair.

Reliable Seiko 4R36 Movement Inside
All four models are powered by Seiko’s tried-and-tested Caliber 4R36 automatic movement, known for its reliability and ease of maintenance. The movement includes 24 jewels, beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz), and provides hacking and hand-winding functionality. It also delivers a respectable power reserve of approximately 41 hours.

The dial layout is familiar to fans of the SKX line, with bold hour markers and a central set of three hands, all generously coated in Seiko’s proprietary Lumibrite for optimal legibility in low-light conditions. A day-date display is positioned at 3 o’clock, set on a white background for contrast. A printed minute track runs along the outer edge of the dial, while the Seiko 5 Sports logo sits below 12 o’clock, and the word “Automatic” is found above 6 o’clock—hallmarks of the collection’s clean and functional aesthetic.
