Seiko Presents Three Special Editions in its Prospex Save the Ocean Collection
Inspired by the first Seikos diver’s watches used by Japanese adventurers and researchers on their expeditions to the north and south poles during the 60s and 70s, Seiko now launches three new watches.
Included in the Prospex Save the Ocean collection, they are all re-interpretations of legendary diver’s watches and whose patterned dials evoke the landscapes and seascapes of the Arctic and Antarctic.
The SPB297 is inspired by the first Diver’s watch from 1965 used on the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition between 1966 and 1969, and features a deep-blue dial.
While the SPB299 features a light blue dial and a darker blue bezel, inspired by the first Seiko diver’s watch from 1968 that offered 300m of water resistance and came with a 10-beat automatic movement.
Last but not least, the SPB301, which features a white-toned dial and is distinguished by its unique 1970s silhouette case, which was used by Japanese adventurer Naomi Uemura between 1974 and 1976 when he completed a 12,500km solo dog-sled run from Greenland to Alaska.
The three watches, in addition to their distinctive steel cases, feature a unidirectional bezel with a 60-minute scale, curved sapphire crystal, screw-down crown, screw case back and 200m of water resistance. On the patterned dials in different tones, plated indexes and faceted baton hands all filled with Lumibrite and date window at 3 o’clock.
Inside, they are powered by the automatic movement Caliber 6R35 that produces 21,600 Vph (6 beats per second) and offers up to 70 hours of power reserve.
All watches are offered with a three-link stainless steel bracelet, with secure clasps and extenders.
The watches will be available from June 2022 at the brand’s official boutiques and retailers with prices starting at €1,300 for the SPB297 and SPB299 models and €1,400 for the SPB301 model.
