Seiko Presents a New Mechanical Speedtimer Expanding Its Collection
Re-introduced almost a year ago and inspired by the 1969 chronograph, the Seiko Speedtimer was the first automatic chronograph in the world which came with a column wheel and vertical clutch that allowed to measure the elapsed time.
In September, Seiko announced the launch of four variants powered by solar technology, in addition to two mechanical variants, one as a limited edition inspired by the 1/5th second stopwatch from 1964 with a white dial and a current production variant with a black dial. Since then Seiko has introduced two more variants of the Speedtimer with automatic movement, and again one in the form of a limited edition, for Seiko being for the 17th consecutive year the official timekeeper of the World Athletics Championships which featured a black textured dial with two grey registers and yellow details and a current edition with matt blue dial with two black registers.
The new Speedtimer SRQ043 that arrives now is the fifth in the current lineage of the brand’s mythical chronograph that comes with a mechanical movement, now featuring a navy blue dial with two silver registers and red accents. In terms of novelties, there is not much more to add, with the chronograph having the same configuration as the other four variants, namely a 42.5mm diameter by 15.1mm thick stainless steel case, sapphire crystal, crown at 3 o’clock and two pump-style pushers, open back case and 100m water resistance. On the blue dial, in addition to the two subdials, rhodium-plated hour markers and faceted hands filled with luminescence material, an outer ring tachymeter scale and an inner ring 1/5th second scale and date window at 6 o’clock are applied.
Inside it is powered by the Caliber 8R46 automatic movement, which comes with manual winding and “hacking seconds”, and which offers up to 45 hours of power reserve. The watch is offered on a steel bracelet with a three-fold clasp and an extra calf leather strap.
The watch is already available in the brand’s official boutiques and authorized retailers at the recommended price of €3,200.
