Seiko Introduces The Prospex Speedtimer HBJ008 European Limited Edition
Few watch designs capture the spirit of motorsport as naturally as a classic racing chronograph. With the new Prospex Speedtimer HBJ008, Seiko revisits that familiar formula through a deep blue dial, contrasting orange details and a practical solar-powered movement, creating a distinctive European limited edition.
Limited to 4,000 pieces, the new HBJ008 retains the compact proportions and technical architecture that have made the modern Speedtimer collection one of Seiko’s most recognisable sports chronographs.
A compact racing chronograph
The HBJ008 is housed in a 39 mm stainless steel case measuring 13 mm thick, with a 45 mm lug-to-lug distance. Its proportions keep the watch relatively compact for a chronograph, while the 100-metre water-resistance rating adds the versatility expected from a Prospex model.

A fixed stainless steel bezel surrounds the dial and incorporates a black tachymeter scale, reinforcing the Speedtimer’s motorsport-inspired character. The right side of the case features a textured crown and two pushers for operating the chronograph.
The caseback is solid stainless steel and carries the individual limited-edition number, corresponding to its position within the 4,000-piece production run.
Deep blue meets orange
The defining feature of the HBJ008 is its dial. Rather than using the brighter blue often associated with racing-inspired chronographs, Seiko has chosen a deeper and richer shade, contrasted by a series of orange details.
Orange appears on the central chronograph seconds hand, the small hand within the 60-minute counter at 6 o’clock and the lume applied to the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock markers.

The dial combines three sub-dials with a date display positioned beneath the 4 o’clock marker. At 9 o’clock is the small-seconds display, while the 3 o’clock register provides a 24-hour indication.
Interestingly, the 6 o’clock sub-dial performs a second function. When the chronograph is not operating, it acts as the movement’s power-reserve indicator, with markings ranging from “E” to “F”.
The hour and minute hands feature beige Lumibrite, while the orange-filled quarter-hour markers provide an additional visual contrast and contribute to legibility in low-light conditions.
The dial also incorporates a white 60-second scale, an applied Seiko logo and the Prospex designation beneath it.
Solar-powered Seiko V192
Inside the HBJ008 is Seiko’s V192 solar-powered quartz movement. The system uses light to generate and store energy, making the Speedtimer particularly straightforward as an everyday chronograph.
When fully charged, the V192 provides approximately six months of power reserve and has a stated accuracy of ±15 seconds per month.
The movement also incorporates a low-power warning function. When the available energy becomes critically low, the seconds hand moves in two-second intervals, indicating that the watch needs exposure to light.
The solar cells are integrated into the dial beneath the three sub-dials, allowing the watch to recharge from both natural and artificial light without requiring regular battery replacement.
Two strap options
Seiko pairs the HBJ008 with a three-row stainless steel bracelet featuring a fully brushed finish. Measuring 20mm at the lugs, the bracelet tapers towards a folding clasp with push-button release.

The watch is also supplied with a cognac-coloured racing-style leather strap. Its warm tone creates another visual connection with the orange details of the dial while giving the Speedtimer a more traditional motorsport character.
The inclusion of both bracelet and leather strap gives the HBJ008 two distinct personalities, from a more technical everyday configuration to a more classic racing-chronograph look.
