Seiko Introduces New Prospex 1968 Heritage Diver GMT Watches
Seiko continues to build on its rich legacy in dive watchmaking with the introduction of two new additions to the Prospex Heritage collection. Drawing inspiration from the brand’s iconic 1968 Diver’s watch—Japan’s first hi-beat one-piece diver—these latest models blend vintage design cues with modern functionality, most notably the inclusion of a GMT complication.

A Modern Take on a Historic Diver
The new references reinterpret one of Seiko’s most professional dive watches, now enhanced for today’s global traveler. While remaining true to the spirit of the original 1968 model, these updated versions introduce a second time zone feature—an increasingly popular complication that adds practical versatility beyond diving.

Both models are housed in a robust stainless steel case measuring 42 mm in diameter, 13.30 mm in thickness, and 48.60 mm lug-to-lug. The case features a refined mix of brushed and polished surfaces, delivering a tool-watch aesthetic with a premium edge.
A unidirectional rotating bezel with a ceramic insert complements the dial color, while the luminous scale ensures optimal readability in low-light conditions thanks to Seiko’s LumiBrite technology. Additional professional-grade features include a sapphire crystal, screw-down crown positioned at 4 o’clock, solid screw-down case back, and an impressive 300 meters of water resistance.
Two Dial Variants: Green or Classic Black
Seiko offers these new GMT divers in two distinct versions. The HBC001 stands out with a rich green dial, while the HBC002 opts for a more traditional black layout.

Both dials showcase applied hour markers and bold, faceted hands, all generously filled with luminescent material for excellent legibility underwater. A lollipop-style seconds hand with a red tip adds a sporty touch, while a discreet date window sits at 4:30.
The highlight, however, is the central GMT hand in a contrasting gold tone. Completing a full 360-degree rotation every 24 hours, it allows the wearer to track a second time zone with ease—an elegant integration that enhances the watch’s everyday usability.
Calibre 6R54: A First for Seiko Dive Watches
Powering these new models is the in-house Calibre 6R54 automatic movement. Featuring 24 jewels and beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour, it delivers a solid power reserve of up to three days.
Notably, this marks the first time Seiko has equipped a dive watch with a mechanical GMT movement, underscoring the brand’s commitment to innovation within its Prospex lineup.
Comfort and Wearability
The watches are paired with a three-link stainless steel bracelet designed for durability and comfort. It features a folding clasp with a micro-adjustment system, allowing for precise, incremental sizing—ideal for adapting to wrist expansion during dives or daily wear.

Availability and Pricing
Set to arrive in May, the new Seiko Prospex Heritage GMT divers will be available at a retail price of GBP 1,600. With their combination of historical inspiration, robust specifications, and practical GMT functionality, these models are poised to be strong contenders in the modern tool watch segment.
