Seiko Expands Prospex And 5 Sports Collections With New Marinemasters And SKX GMTs
Alongside the new releases from Grand Seiko, there were also a few from its sister brand Seiko, starting with two Marinemasters in the Prospex line and three new SKX GMTs in the 5 Sports collection.
Seiko Marinemaster SLA077 and SLA079
The new Marinemasters are inspired by the 1968 ref. 6159 diving watch that emerged with the need for greater water resistance, raising the bar to 300m.
The newly-arrived Marinemasters come in a robust stainless steel case measuring 42.60mm in diameter, 13.40mm thick and 49.30mm long with a polished and brushed finish. Unidirectional bezel with black insert and 60-minute scale with LumiBrite, sapphire crystal, screw-down crown at 4 o’clock, screwed solid case back with engravings and the same 300m water resistance as the original.
The white dial of the SLA077 or the black dial of the SLA079 features a grained matte pattern, adorned with applied hour markers and hands filled with the same luminescent material as the bezel and a small date window at 4:30 with a matching background.
Powered by the automatic movement Caliber 8L35 which, like Grand Seiko movements, is assembled in Shizukuishi, it runs at 28,800 Vph and offers up to 50 hours of power reserve.
The new Marinemaster arrives attached to a 5-link steel bracelet with a folding clasp and can be purchased for £ 2,580.

Seiko 5 Sports SKX GMT
The new Seiko 5 Sports inspired by the legendary SKX appeared in June 2022 in a GMT version. The collection had three variants to date: blue dial with black-blue bezel, black dial with grey-black bezel and orange dial with grey-black bezel and gilt accents. In the meantime, many others have emerged, such as the limited edition Skateboarder Yuto Horigome with black dial and lilac-black bezel or the two editions exclusive to the East market with ice blue dial and black-blue bezel or burgundy dial and red-black bezel.
The Japanese brand reinforces the permanent collection with three new variants, namely: SSK033 with silvery white dial and blue-black bezel, the SSK035 with green dial and green-black bezel and finally the SSK036 in a two-tone case with black dial and bezel with gilt accents.
The watches present the same features as their older siblings, like a steel case measuring 42.50mm wide, 13.60mm high and 46mm lug-to-lug, a bidirectional bezel with a 24-hour scale, Hardlex glass, a crown at 4 o’clock flanked by guards and 100m of water resistance.
The dial features printed hour markers and hands filled with LumiBrite, a date window at 3 o’clock with a magnifier and an extra central GMT hand that works in partnership with the 24-hour chapter ring near the edges.
There’s also nothing new inside, operating the 24-jewel 4R34 automatic movement that runs at 21,600 Vph and offers up to 41 hours of power reserve.
The SSK033 and SSk035 variants come attached to a 5-link Jubillee-style steel bracelet and are priced at £420 while the SSK036 is paired with a brown leather strap and comes priced at £400.
