Seiko Expands Astron Lineup With Four New Solar Dual-Time Chronographs
Seiko has expanded its renowned Astron collection with four new Solar Dual-Time Chronograph models, introducing a striking horizontally striped dial design. Among these, the limited-edition SSH180 stands out with its distinctive 12-sided bezel, two-tone rose gold accents, and ceramic inserts, making it a highly collectible timepiece.
Each of these new Seiko Astron watches is housed in an angular titanium case measuring 44.30mm in diameter, 14.40mm thick, and 50mm in length. The predominantly brushed finish enhances its sophisticated appeal, complemented by a sapphire crystal, a fixed 60-minute bezel, and a fluted crown positioned at 3 o’clock, flanked by two robust block-shaped pushers. The solid screw-down case back features an intricately engraved three-dimensional globe, reinforcing its global timekeeping capabilities while ensuring a water resistance of up to 100 meters.
The dial layout remains true to the Astron’s signature style, packed with functional elements. It features three sub-dials, including a dual-time register at 6 o’clock, a multifunctional mode selector at 9 o’clock that also integrates a power reserve indicator and day of the week display, and a 1/20th of a second chronograph counter at 12 o’clock. Applied hour markers and hands filled with Lumibrite ensure exceptional readability in low-light conditions, while a 24-hour indicator and a date window positioned at 4 o’clock and 4:30 add to its practicality.
The new Seiko Astron lineup offers four distinct variants. The SSH175 showcases a blue-gray dial with a matching blue bezel, while the SSH177 comes with a silver-gray dial paired with a black bezel. The SSH179 takes on a stealthy all-black aesthetic with a black-coated case, bracelet, and dial for a bold, modern look. The limited-edition SSH180, with only 1,500 units available, stands out with a navy blue dial enriched with rose gold-tone accents, a unique decagonal bezel with a black insert, and a bracelet featuring black ceramic center links.
At the heart of these timepieces is the in-house Seiko 5X83 solar-powered quartz movement, a 14-jewel caliber that delivers outstanding accuracy of +/- 15 seconds per month. It automatically adjusts the time using satellite technology, ensuring precise global synchronization.
Completing the package is an integrated five-piece titanium bracelet equipped with a folding clasp and micro-adjustments, ensuring a secure and comfortable fit. Pricing for the Seiko Astron SSH175 and SSH177 is set at £2,700, while the SSH179 and the limited-edition SSH180 retail at £2,900. These new releases reinforce Seiko’s reputation for cutting-edge horology, combining innovative solar technology with a bold and functional design.
