Seiko Craftsmanship Series: New Presage GMT SPB447 With Urushi Lacquer Dial
The Seiko Craftsmanship Series returns with the new Presage GMT Urushi Lacquer Dial SPB447, a watch that beautifully showcases the fusion of traditional Japanese artistry and modern watchmaking. The timepiece features a striking black Urushi lacquer dial, crafted using a centuries-old technique, and presents a second time zone complication for the first time in this collection.
Housed in a round stainless steel case, the watch has dimensions of 40.20mm wide, 12.40mm high, and 48mm long, making it a comfortable fit for a variety of wrist sizes. The case combines both brushed and polished finishes and comes with a super-hard coating for enhanced durability. The watch also boasts a double-curved sapphire glass, providing excellent scratch resistance. The design is completed with a smooth bezel, a fluted crown at 3 o’clock bearing the Seiko logo, and a screw-down open case back that reveals the intricate movement. With 100m water resistance, the SPB447 is as functional as it is stylish.
The dial, the centrepiece of the watch, is crafted using Urushi lacquer, a traditional Japanese technique that gives it a glossy, luxurious finish. The dial is adorned with white leaf-shaped hands, with the hour hand featuring a unique drop-shaped tip. Both the hands and the hour markers are coated with LumiBrite, ensuring legibility even in low-light conditions. A date window is positioned next to the crown for added functionality. The golden centre seconds hand features a horn-shaped counterweight, which matches the additional GMT hand and the 24-hour track that runs along the outer edge of the dial.
At the heart of the Seiko Presage SPB447 is the Caliber 6R54 automatic movement, which powers the watch with precision. The movement operates at a frequency of 21,600 Vph and offers an accuracy of -15/+25 seconds per day. One of the standout features is the 72-hour power reserve, providing up to three days of continuous operation without needing to be wound.
The watch is paired with a dark brown leather strap, which is both elegant and comfortable. The strap features a triple folding clasp and is certified by the Leather Working Group, ensuring that the leather meets high environmental and ethical standards. Priced at €1,850.
