Seiko Celebrates ‘Japan Blue’ With The New Presage Classic SPB525 And SPB527

Seiko enriches its elegant Presage Classic Series with the arrival of two new references — the and the — bringing a captivating shade of indigo, known as ‘Ai-iro’, to the collection.

This deep blue tone, cherished in Japan since the Edo period (1603–1868), was considered a symbol of good fortune among Samurai warriors. During the Meiji era (1868–1912), cities across Japan embraced this hue so widely that foreign visitors came to call it ‘Japan Blue.’

Familiar Design, New Depth of Color

As with the five references introduced earlier this year, the new SPB525 and SPB527 share the same refined 40.20 mm stainless steel case with a stepped bezel, double-domed sapphire crystal, fluted crown at 3 o’clock, and 100m water resistance. The mostly polished surfaces are contrasted by brushed lugs, and the open caseback reveals Seiko’s mechanical movements within.

The SPB525 features a time and date configuration, with a domed grained-textured dial inspired by soft Japanese silk. The elegant baton hour markers, alpha-style hands, a discreet minute track, and a date window at 3 o’clock complete its balanced composition. By contrast, the SPB527 presents an open heart display at 9 o’clock combined with a 24-hour subdial at 6 o’clock. Its sunbrust dial offers a dynamic play of light, giving glimpses of the movement’s Diashock system through the aperture.

Mechanical Precision

The SPB525 is powered by the Caliber 6R55 automatic movement, while the SPB527 houses the Caliber 6R5J. Both are finely finished, operate at 21,600 vph, contain 24 jewels, and offer a power reserve of approximately 72 hours.

Straps

Both watches come fitted to a 7-row stainless steel bracelet that combines brushed outer links with polished inner links, secured by a butterfly clasp, providing a comfortable and elegant fit on the wrist.

Availability and Prices

With their deep indigo ‘Ai-iro’ dials and refined construction, the new SPB525 and SPB527 continue Seiko’s celebration of Japanese craftsmanship and cultural heritage within the Presage Classic Series — now with an added touch of historical color symbolism.

Expected to reach boutiques October 2025, they are priced at GBP 900 for the SPB525 and GBP 1,060 for the SPB527.
