Seiko Celebrates 100 Years With Cutting-Edge Astron Chronographs
Seiko, which continues to celebrate 100 years of displaying its name on the dial, presents four new references within its Astron line, which for the first time combines the chronograph complication with GPS Solar Dual-Time technology.
The four new watches all feature titanium cases and integrated bracelets and are equipped with the new Caliber 5X83, three of them become part of the permanent collection and another one is a limited edition.
The watches embrace a robust case measuring 43.30mm in diameter and 13.40mm thick, black ceramic insert bezel, double curved sapphire glass, fluted crown at 3 o’clock and two horizontal pushers, screwed case back and 100m of water resistance.
The dials come with three registers in the 6-9-12 o’clock positions consummated in a second-time zone that also works as hour and minute totalizers when the chronograph is active, a day of the week indicator that becomes a charge indicator when it is in flight mode, and lastly, an elapsed time 1/20th second. On the dials, we can also find three centre hands that, like the applied hour markers, are filled with luminescent material, an AM/PM indicator at 4 o’clock and finally a round date window at 4:30.
As for the different variants, we have the SSH151 which comes with a black dial, the SSH153 with a silver dial and the SSH155 which, like the SSH151, comes with a black dial but whose case and integrated bracelet come with a black coating. Then we have the limited edition SSH156, which comes with a black ultra-hard coating to which it adds golden elements such as the ring bezel, crown, pushers and case back with the latter being here engraved with the name of the founder “Kintaro Hattori”, the retro “S” logo in the centre and the phrase “One Step Ahead Of The Rest”. Like the case, the dial also follows the same formula, with a black background and gold accents. It should also be noted that, unlike the three regular versions, the ceramic bezel insert comes without any graduation and is faceted.
Inside, as already mentioned, the debutant Quartz solar-powered Caliber 5X83 operates, featuring an accuracy of +/-15 seconds per month and whose local time and different time zones are GPS-controlled.
The watches that come with an integrated titanium bracelet matching the case and folding clasp, are priced at €2,600 for the versions with a black or silver dial, €2,800 for the variant with a black dial and black coated case and €4,000 for the limited edition of 1,000 pieces.
