Seiko Brings Compass Bezels To The 5 Sports Field Collection
Japanese watchmaker Seiko expands its ever-growing Seiko 5 Sports lineup with the introduction of four new Field Series references: the HDB006, HDB007, HDB008, and HDB009. Inspired by outdoor-oriented field watches and equipped with one of Seiko’s signature features — the compass bezel — the new models blend rugged practicality with the accessible spirit that has defined the Seiko 5 Sports collection since its revival in 2019.

The new quartet brings a more adventure-focused personality to the Seiko 5 Sports range while maintaining the robust and affordable formula that has made the collection so popular among enthusiasts.
Familiar Field Watch Design With Outdoor Functionality
All four references share the same stainless steel case architecture, measuring 41 mm in diameter and 13.20 mm thick, with a 48.50 mm lug-to-lug distance and a versatile 20mm lug width. The dimensions position the watches comfortably within the modern sports watch category while still remaining wearable for a wide variety of wrist sizes.
As expected from the Seiko 5 Sports family, the watches are equipped with a Hardlex crystal, a transparent caseback, and a push-pull crown. Water resistance is rated at 100 meters, making them suitable for everyday wear and light outdoor activities.

The main addition to the Field Series is the bidirectional compass bezel, a feature long associated with Seiko’s adventure-oriented watches. Crafted in steel with a pronounced knurled texture for improved grip, the bezel is designed to assist with navigation when used alongside the position of the sun. A luminous marker at the north position improves visibility in low-light conditions.
The HDB006 and HDB007 feature a brushed steel bezel insert, while the HDB008 and HDB009 opt for black and brown coated bezels respectively, reinforcing their more rugged aesthetic.
Four Dial Variations
Seiko offers the new Field Series in four distinct color configurations.
The HDB006 comes with a glossy black dial, while the HDB007 features a clean white dial, both paired with stainless steel bracelets for a more classic and versatile appearance.

The HDB008 adopts a green dial combined with a black compass bezel and matching green textile strap, giving it a more tactical outdoor look. The HDB009 follows a similar formula but with warm brown tones across the dial, bezel, and strap.
One of the practical improvements introduced on these models is the addition of LumiBrite-coated Arabic numerals. Previous Seiko 5 Sports Field models typically featured lume only on the hour markers and hands, but these new references improve nighttime legibility significantly by illuminating the numerals as well.
The dial layout remains functional and easy to read, with a central 13–24-hour scale and a day-date display positioned at 3 o’clock.
Powered By The Reliable Calibre 4R36
Inside all four models is Seiko’s well-known automatic Calibre 4R36. The movement operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3Hz) and delivers approximately 41 hours of power reserve.
Widely used across Seiko’s entry-level mechanical collections, the 4R36 is appreciated for its durability and reliability, while also offering hacking seconds and manual winding functionality.
Strap Options And Availability
The HDB006 and HDB007 are delivered on a three-link stainless steel bracelet fitted with a folding clasp, while the HDB008 and HDB009 come paired with green or brown nylon straps featuring leather lining and a traditional pin buckle.

The new Seiko 5 Sports Field Series models are expected to arrive globally in June 2026 with prices set at € 390 for the strap versions (HDB008 and HDB009) and € 410 for the bracelet versions (HDB006 and HDB007).
Our Take
The new Seiko 5 Sports Field Series strengthens the collection’s tool watch appeal with the addition of the compass rotating bezel and the newly illuminated Arabic numerals, features that enhance both functionality and everyday versatility.
The four new variants offer distinct personalities, ranging from the more classic black and white versions paired with steel bezels and bracelets for those seeking a timeless look, to the green and brown editions that lean into a more adventurous and practical aesthetic thanks to their darker bezels and nylon straps.

As is often the case with modern Seiko 5 Sports models, we still believe a slightly smaller 39mm case would make these watches even more appealing to a broader audience. That said, the overall execution is very convincing. While the black and white versions remain the safest choices, it is probably the green variant that stands out the most to us thanks to its balanced mix of rugged charm and outdoor character.
