Roger Dubuis Presents The New Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph

Roger Dubuis presents the new Excalibur Spider which comes with a Flyback Chronograph which represents a complete first for the brand. This timepiece comes in a carbon fibre case housing a skeletonized dial with red accents and powered by the new In-house Caliber.

On the outside, the robust 45mm case in black tones is notable for the signature nodes that we can find throughout the case and in its different elements, be they the bezel, lugs, crown or pushers.

But it’s on the skeletonized dial that all the action takes place, with a tachymeter scale outer ring with brand’s lettering at 12 o’clock and just below two twin barrels, at 3 o’clock we find the same ingenious 30-minute counter introduced in the Monovertex presented this year at Watches And Wonders and called the Rotating Minute Center (RMC) whose patent is pending and which works through a rotating mechanism with the numerals 0, 1 and 2 representing the decimal places and works in partnership with a fixed semi-circular scale with the unitary places.

At 6 o’clock an almost imperceptible date window is only revealed by its red numbering and above it the column wheel and finally at 9 o’clock the balance wheel. Closing the dial, skeletonized hour and minute hands with an arrow-shaped tip filled with luminescent material and a red chronograph centre seconds hand.

Built from the ground, the new 333-part Caliber RD780 automatic movement comes with a column-wheel and vertical clutch with a patent-pending Second Breaking System (SBS), operating at 28,800 Vph and offering up to 72 hours of power reserve thanks to the two barrels mentioned above. Through the open case back, we can see the circular-grained and sandblasted main plate and bridges, in addition to the 5-arm 360º oscillating weight inspired by the wheel rim of sports cars.

The Flyback Chronograph is attached to a black textured rubber strap with red stitching.
