Roger Dubuis Presents Black Ceramics
Hyper expressive, hyper mechanical and hyper-technical are the words chosen by Roger Dubuis to mark the turn of the Swiss brand towards ceramic material, and if the date does not mark its baptism in this field, the option for the black ceramic material is a complete debut and to mark this milestone, Roger Dubuis launches two new watches, the Excalibur Double Tourbillon and the Excalibur Monobalancier.
With the ceramic material being four times harder than stainless steel, both watches are designed to withstand and be used in any situation. Unlike many other brands that already use ceramic material in their watches, Roger Dubuis is proud to distinguish itself from others by its design process, choosing to mould the raw ceramic to its own shapes and not the other way around, that is, the ceramic case is designed to fit the material, thus taking ten times longer than any other of its parts.
It all starts with a mixture of a blend of powders made of Zirconia combined with 3% stabilizing Yttrium, which results in its hyper-resistant hardness, then through highly specialized technicians these powders are transformed into a blank, then passed through the machining process, six times lengthier than the standard, and finally through a sintering and heating process which results in black ceramic with an immutable and highly scratch-resistant finish.
Excalibur Double Tourbillon Black Ceramic
So the new Excalibur Double Tourbillon is an improved evolution of its predecessor from 2021, which comes in a 45mm diameter case, with a skeletonized dial, inside it is powered by the RD108 transparent calibre, whose two tourbillons guarantee remarkable precision and guarantee up to 72 hours of power reserve. The watch is offered with a black calf leather strap that comes with the Quick Release System, priced at €278,000 and limited to 28 pieces worldwide.
Excalibur Monobalancer Black Ceramic
After Roger Dubuis presented an improved version of the Excalibur Monobalancier in March during WatchesAndWonders, now comes with a black ceramic variant, which is presented in a 42mm diameter case with a fluted bezel and sharp notches, skeletonized dial, through from which it is possible to observe several elements of its RD 72OSQ calibre such as the escapement wheel, the micro-rotor, the balance wheel, among others that offer a generous 72 hours of power reserve. Like the Excalibur Double Tourbillon, it is offered with a black calf-leather strap and can be purchased for €69,000.
