Roger Dubuis Hommage La Placide Perpetual Calendar Biretrograde: A Tribute To The Brand’s Origins
As Roger Dubuis marks its 30th anniversary, the manufacture revisits its early creative spirit with the introduction of the Hommage La Placide Perpetual Calendar Biretrograde. The model reconnects with the brand’s classic roots, long before the bold, architectural Excalibur era, offering a more restrained interpretation of traditional haute horlogerie.
A Return to the Hommage Spirit
The Hommage collection represents the foundation of the Roger Dubuis legacy. Established in 1995 by Roger Dubuis and Carlos Dias, the brand quickly gained recognition for its hand-finished chronographs and perpetual calendars that reflected traditional Genevan craftsmanship. The new Hommage La Placide revives this aesthetic — characterized by harmony, proportion, and mechanical refinement — while integrating restored components and historically significant calibres.

Refined Case Design
The Hommage La Placide features a 38 mm round case crafted from 18K rose gold, with a thickness of 11 mm. The design is deliberately understated: polished surfaces alternate with brushed flanks, while a smooth bezel frames the elegant dial. The dimensions and finishing choices evoke the balanced, timeless proportions of mid-20th-century Geneva watchmaking.

The Distinctive Biretrograde Calendar Display
The dial showcases Roger Dubuis’s signature biretrograde layout, a hallmark of the brand since its earliest perpetual calendars. Set against a deep blue lacquered base, the display combines mother-of-pearl segments for the retrograde day and date indications, while the month and leap-year indicators occupy the 12 o’clock position. A moon phase at 6 o’clock, rendered in gold over an aventurine backdrop, completes the composition with celestial depth.

The Calibre Hommage 1472
Inside the watch beats the Calibre Hommage 1472, a fusion of two key movements in the brand’s history, the RD14 automatic base calibre, Roger Dubuis’s first in-house self-winding movement (introduced in 2004), and the RD72 perpetual calendar module, originally developed in 1999 and re-engineered for this release.

In this reissue, the movement incorporates a combination of restored original parts and newly manufactured components — nearly half of the levers, springs, and wheels have been remade to meet current standards. The movement also features a swan-neck regulator, recalculated gear train, and a new gold oscillating weight, providing a 4Hz frequency and 48-hour power reserve.
Each calibre is Geneva Seal certified, meeting the rigorous criteria for decoration and performance applied to both the movement and the complete watch. Finishing details include polished bevels, circular graining, Geneva stripes, and intricate hand decoration using 15 traditional techniques.
Exclusivity and Presentation
The Roger Dubuis Hommage La Placide Perpetual Calendar Biretrograde is limited to 28 pieces worldwide. It is paired with a blue calfskin strap and a rose gold triple folding clasp, complementing the dial’s tones.

This anniversary edition pays homage not only to the brand’s founder but also to the era when Roger Dubuis combined traditional Genevan craftsmanship with mechanical innovation — an approach that continues to define the brand’s identity today. Priced at € 115,000 (excluding taxes)
