Ressence TYPE 9 S75 – A Minimalist Tribute To The UAE’s Natural Landscape

Marking 75 years of Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons’ legacy in horology, Ressence has unveiled the TYPE 9 S75, a limited edition timepiece that connects mechanical innovation with the essence of the Emirates’ terrain. Limited to just 20 pieces, the watch blends elemental design cues with the technical sophistication that defines the Belgian brand.

A Dial Made of Sand – Literally

What sets this special edition apart is its sand dial, created using real grains collected from each of the UAE’s seven emirates. These natural particles are bonded to the rotating titanium discs that form the dial, offering a raw, textured aesthetic that captures the region’s desert heritage in a tactile way. The earthy tones are offset by engraved indices and green Super-LumiNova, which provide low-light legibility without detracting from the organic surface.

Titanium Case and ROCS Time Display

The Grade 5 titanium case measures 39 mm in diameter and 11 mm in thickness, making the watch notably light at just 40 grams. Like all Ressence designs, there’s no crown on the side; instead, the time-setting and manual winding are done via a rotating caseback — a hallmark of the TYPE 9.

Displaying the time is Ressence’s signature ROCS (Ressence Orbital Convex System), where the entire dial rotates while satellite sub-dials orbit within it. It’s a hypnotic yet highly legible system that emphasizes motion and modernity, turning the dial into a kinetic sculpture of time.

Movement and Mechanics

Inside, the TYPE 9 S75 runs on a customised ETA 2892-A2 base calibre, topped by the brand’s ROCS 9 module. The movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a 36-hour power reserve. Mounted on a central bearing system, the dial components are inclined slightly to optimize readability from various angles, giving the watch a sculptural feel even when stationary.

Regional Touches and Wearability

Securing the watch is a camel leather strap, chosen not only for its durability and supple feel but also for its cultural relevance to the Gulf region. The strap tapers from 20mm to 18mm and is fastened with a Grade 5 titanium buckle, polished to match the case.
