RB17: When A Formula 1 Mind Designs A Hypercar
The Red Bull RB17 is entering its final development phase, confirming its status as one of the most radical hypercars ever built. Designed with unmistakable Formula 1 DNA, the RB17 prioritizes performance above all else.

Despite Adrian Newey’s departure from Red Bull, his influence remains central to the project. Long described as his ultimate track car, the RB17 continues to reflect the obsessive engineering and aerodynamic focus that defined his F1 career.

The latest evolution introduces subtle but meaningful design changes, including new hockey stick-style LED headlights, more refined air intakes, and a prominent dorsal fin over the engine cover. While slightly more compact than earlier prototypes, its dimensions remain close to those of a modern Formula 1 car.

This version also signals a shift from concept to usable machine, with the addition of mirrors and windshield wipers. Less visible changes include further aerodynamic refinements and a high-mounted exhaust, developed through extensive thermal testing.

At its core remains a 4.5-liter Cosworth-developed V10 paired with a hybrid system, producing a combined 1,200 horsepower and revving to 15,000 rpm. The sound is said to echo late-1990s Formula 1, a deliberate nod to Newey’s favorite era.

Inside, the RB17 stays true to a purist philosophy, featuring no screens or touch controls and accessed via vertically opening doors. Production is limited to just 50 examples, with the first cars already under construction. A dynamic debut is expected this summer, ahead of UK-based production beginning next spring.
