Rado Expands The Captain Cook With A European Cricket Special Edition
Rado has introduced a new special edition of its Captain Cook collection to mark its role as Official Timing Partner of European Cricket. The Rado Captain Cook x European Cricket Special Edition combines the collection’s established dive-watch architecture with a series of subtle details inspired by the sport, including a cricket-pitch dial, red accents referencing a cricket ball and a distinctive minute track.

The watch is built around the 43 mm stainless steel Captain Cook case, measuring 49.80 mm from lug to lug and 16.20 mm in thickness. Its substantial dimensions are complemented by 300 metres of water resistance, making it suited to the same broad sports-watch territory as other contemporary Captain Cook models.
The polished stainless steel case is topped by a rotating bezel featuring a yellow gold PVD coating and one of Rado’s signature blue high-tech ceramic inserts. The ceramic surface carries laser-engraved gold-coloured numerals and markers, creating a strong contrast between the blue insert and the warmer metallic tones.

A gold PVD-coated screw-down crown reinforces the case’s sporty construction, while the front is protected by a box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. On the reverse, the stainless steel caseback receives a dedicated engraving identifying the watch as the “Official Timing Partner European Cricket.”
A Dial Inspired by the Cricket Pitch
The dial is where the collaboration becomes most apparent. Its blue gradient finish takes inspiration from European Cricket’s visual identity, while the central layout depicts a cricket pitch viewed from above.

Several details reinforce the theme without turning the watch into an overtly branded piece. Above the applied Rado logo are three gold-coloured dots representing the three stumps of a cricket wicket. The familiar rotating anchor logo is positioned against a red background, recalling the colour of a traditional leather cricket ball.
The minute track is designed to evoke the stitched seam of a cricket ball, while the seconds hand features a red tip that continues the same visual connection. Applied yellow gold-coloured hour markers complement the bezel and case accents, with the broad Captain Cook hands and indices filled with white Super-LumiNova for visibility in low-light conditions.
Powermatic 80-Based Automatic Movement
Inside the case is Rado’s Calibre R763, an automatic movement based on the ETA C07.611/Powermatic 80 platform. The movement operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and provides an 80-hour power reserve, allowing the watch to remain running for more than three days when fully wound.

The calibre is fitted with a Nivachron hairspring, providing increased resistance to magnetic fields encountered in everyday environments. Rado also states that the movement is regulated beyond standard testing requirements, with adjustments carried out in up to five positions to help optimise accuracy.
Three Strap Options
Rado supplies the Captain Cook x European Cricket Special Edition with three different ways to wear it.
The primary option is a stainless steel bracelet with yellow gold PVD-coated centre links, finished with a titanium folding clasp. For a more casual or sporty configuration, the watch also comes with a dark blue NATO-style textile strap and a black rubber strap.

Both additional straps feature matching gold-coloured hardware, allowing their metallic details to complement the case and bezel. A dedicated pouch is included to keep the three configurations together when they are not being worn.
The result is a Captain Cook that retains the collection’s familiar proportions, 300-metre water resistance and automatic architecture while adding a carefully integrated European Cricket theme through its dial, bezel and finishing details.
The Rado Captain Cook x European Cricket Special Edition is available now for CHF 2,550.
