Rado introduces a new version of its Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Chronograph, combining the collection’s vintage-inspired dive watch design with modern materials and contemporary chronograph functionality. The latest release arrives with a navy blue color scheme, rose gold accents, and a lightweight plasma high-tech ceramic construction that reinforces the model’s technical character.

A Bold Ceramic Case Construction

The new chronograph keeps the bold proportions introduced with the Captain Cook Chronograph family, featuring a 43 mm case diameter, a thickness of 16.20 mm, and a lug-to-lug distance of 49.80 mm. Despite its substantial dimensions, the watch maintains a relatively comfortable weight of 169 grams thanks to the use of plasma high-tech ceramic for both the monobloc case and bracelet.

Rado’s plasma ceramic process transforms white ceramic through extreme heat treatment, creating a metallic grey appearance that resembles liquid metal while retaining the benefits of ceramic. The material is highly scratch-resistant, harder than steel, and offers a smooth tactile feel on the wrist.

The bracelet combines matte-finished outer surfaces with polished center links, creating a balanced contrast between sporty and refined styling.

Maritime-Inspired Design Details

The case offers 300 meters of water resistance and incorporates polished rose gold-colored PVD details on the screw-down crown, chronograph pushers, and bezel accents. The navy blue ceramic bezel insert features engraved markers filled with white Super-LumiNova, while the inward-sloping bezel design pays tribute to the vintage Captain Cook models from the 1960s.

Protecting the dial is a box-shaped sapphire crystal that reinforces the retro-inspired character of the watch while improving durability compared to the acrylic crystals used on historical models.

A Revised Chronograph Dial Layout

The deep navy blue dial introduces a tri-compax chronograph layout, adding a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock alongside the 30-minute counter and running seconds display.

Applied hour markers with gold-tone borders are filled with white Super-LumiNova, matching the signature arrow-shaped hour hand and sword-style minute hand. Chronograph indications are highlighted with gold-colored hands featuring vintage-inspired red tips, coordinating with the red numerals found on the date display.

The sub-dials feature slightly recessed interiors with snailed outer tracks and brushed centers, adding depth and texture to the overall dial design. At 12 o’clock, the iconic rotating anchor logo appears over a synthetic ruby background, remaining one of the most recognizable details of the Captain Cook collection.

Automatic Movement And Performance

Turning the watch over reveals a titanium caseback with a sapphire display window showcasing the automatic R801 calibre. Based on the ETA A31 architecture, the movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, includes a Nivachron anti-magnetic hairspring, and provides a power reserve of up to 59 hours.
