Purple And PETRONAS Green: IWC’s New Formula 1 Team Chronograph

IWC Schaffhausen expands its Formula 1 collection with a striking new version of the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 created for the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team. Introduced ahead of the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix, the new model combines a technical titanium case with an unusually vivid purple and PETRONAS green colour scheme.

The watch continues IWC’s long-standing relationship with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team, a partnership that has now extended for more than a decade. Rather than focusing on a driver-specific edition, this model is dedicated directly to the team, following the first official team watch introduced in 2022.

A 41mm titanium case with a distinctive finish

The familiar 41 mm Pilot’s Watch Chronograph case is produced in Grade 5 titanium, a material valued for its combination of strength and low weight. The case measures 14.50 mm thick, retaining the proportions associated with the current Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 platform.

Its most immediate visual feature is the combination of the technical case construction with the bold dial. The purple theme extends to the rubber strap, while PETRONAS green provides the contrasting accents throughout the display.

The purple dial features a sunburst finish that gives the surface additional depth as it catches the light. Around it, the minute track and applied markers are presented in PETRONAS green, echoing the colour used on the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team cars.

The black hands incorporate Super-LumiNova inserts in PETRONAS green, maintaining legibility in low-light conditions while reinforcing the colour scheme. The three chronograph sub-dials are recessed and feature a snailed finish, adding texture to the otherwise highly contemporary dial.

At 3 o’clock, the chronograph is accompanied by IWC’s characteristic double day-date display. The black background of the calendar disc provides another contrast, with the indications picked out in the same green tone used elsewhere on the watch.

IWC Calibre 69385

Powering the chronograph is IWC’s manufacture Calibre 69385, an automatic mechanical movement designed specifically for chronograph applications.

The movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and provides approximately 46 hours of power reserve. Its architecture incorporates a column-wheel-controlled chronograph mechanism, while the movement is visible through the sapphire crystal caseback.

IWC gives the visible components a range of finishing details, including circular Côtes de Genève, polished screws and an openworked rotor with circular graining on its upper surface. The Formula 1 connection is carried through to the sapphire crystal, which features PETRONAS green lettering printed on its underside.

This combination means the watch’s motorsport identity isn’t limited to the dial or strap; the team partnership is also incorporated into the mechanical side of the piece.

Purple rubber strap and EasX-CHANGE system

The colour treatment continues onto the purple rubber strap, which is secured with a Grade 5 titanium pin buckle. For additional versatility, the watch is equipped with IWC’s EasX-CHANGE system, allowing the strap to be removed and replaced without requiring specialist tools.

This makes it possible to change the appearance of the watch according to the occasion while retaining the original titanium case and Formula 1-inspired design.

A bold team edition

The new IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team takes the established 41mm chronograph formula and gives it a much more expressive identity. Its Grade 5 titanium construction keeps the case lightweight, while the purple dial, PETRONAS green details and matching rubber strap create an unmistakable connection with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team.

Unlike many motorsport watches that are associated with individual drivers, this edition places the team itself at the centre of the design. It is not limited by production number and is priced at CHF 7,700.
