Praesidus Expands Jungle Field Line With Automatic 38mm Model
The GG-W-113 field watch specification, issued by the U.S. military in 1967, established a design blueprint that continues to define military field watches today. Its clear Arabic numerals, inner 24-hour track, high legibility, and compact steel case have influenced decades of watches across the industry. While many modern interpretations come from large manufacturers, independent brand Praesidus has built its reputation around faithfully recreating this historically important design.

The Praesidus Jungle Field Automatic 38 represents a mechanical evolution of the brand’s earlier Jungle Field models. While previous versions were offered in a smaller case with a quartz movement, this new iteration introduces an automatic caliber and a more contemporary 38mm case size, while preserving the essential characteristics of the original military watch.
Case and crystal
The Jungle Field Automatic 38 is housed in a 38 mm stainless steel case with a sandblasted finish. This matte surface treatment reduces reflections and helps disguise minor wear, aligning with the utilitarian purpose of the watch. Despite the presence of a double-domed sapphire crystal, the case remains slim, measuring approximately 10mm in thickness.

Water resistance is rated at 100 meters, making the watch suitable for everyday use and light outdoor activity. The sapphire crystal provides increased scratch resistance compared to the acrylic crystals used on vintage-issued examples.
Dial design
Praesidus offers the Jungle Field Automatic 38 with two black dial variants, each staying close to the original GG-W-113 layout. Both feature a prominent outer ring of Arabic numerals from 1 to 12, complemented by a smaller inner track displaying 13 to 24 military time. A minute scale surrounds the dial, with a triangle marker at every five-minute interval.

One dial version uses a smooth matte-black surface with white printed numerals for a traditional, high-contrast appearance. The second option introduces a grain-textured dial paired with a warmer, cream-toned 12-hour numeral track, designed to enhance legibility under varied lighting conditions.

Sword-style hour and minute hands are used on both versions, filled with beige Super-LumiNova, matching the luminous material applied to the five-minute markers.
Movement
Powering the Jungle Field Automatic 38 is the Miyota Caliber 9039. This Japanese automatic movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz) and provides a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. The no-date configuration allows the dial to remain visually faithful to the original military specification.
Strap options
Buyers can choose between two strap configurations, both designed to reflect period-correct military aesthetics. The first is a two-piece olive-drab canvas strap with a leather lining and pin buckle, inspired by Vietnam-era field equipment. The second option is a brown leather strap with a more traditional profile, intended for everyday wear.
