Portuguese Football Federation Marks 110th Anniversary With Exclusive Junghans Timepiece
The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) is marking its 110th anniversary with a special collaboration with German watchmaker Junghans. The result of this partnership is the limited edition “1972 Heróis do Mar” watch, which is part of Junghans’ 1972 collection. This collection, created a few years ago, celebrates the brand’s historic connection to the sports world, especially its role as the Official Timekeeper of the 1972 Munich Olympic Games.
The “1972 Heróis do Mar” watch incorporates several elements that honour the FPF. Notably, the federation’s logo is featured on the dial at 6 o’clock and on the case back, where it is accompanied by the inscription “Que Há-De Guiar-Te À Victória,” a phrase taken from the Portuguese national anthem, “A Portuguesa.” Red accents, which reference the primary colour of the FPF emblem, are also prominently displayed on the dial, including a red ring around its edges and red chronograph hands.
The timepiece features a 43.30mm by 11.30mm stainless steel case with a brushed finish and a sapphire crystal. It includes a 60-minute black bezel, a knurled crown located at 3 o’clock, horizontal pushers, a solid screw-down case back, and a water resistance of up to 100 meters.
The dial follows a classic Panda design, with a white background and two black subdials. These subdials include a 24-hour counter at 3 o’clock, a 60-minute register at 9 o’clock, and running seconds at 6 o’clock. There is also a date window positioned at 4:30. The hour markers and hands are filled with luminescent, eco-friendly material, and the minute track is positioned on a rehaut.
Powered by a Quartz movement, the watch comes paired with a three-link stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp. This limited edition of only 110 pieces is available for sale exclusively through Banco Português de Investimento (BPI), the official partner of the FPF, making it a highly sought-after collector’s item. Combining fine craftsmanship, sports heritage, and national pride, the “1972 Heróis do Mar” watch is a fitting tribute to the FPF’s long history.
