Porsche Design Unveils Special Edition Chronographs For 911 Turbo’s 50th Anniversary
This year Porsche celebrates the 50th anniversary of its iconic 911 Turbo model and to sign that important historical milestone, in addition to the new Porsche 911 Turbo 50 Years, Porsche Design is also presenting two new watches.
Among the new watches is the Porsche Design Chronograph | 50 Years 911 Turbo a limited edition of 500 units aimed at the general public and the Porsche Design Chronograph 911 Turbo 50 Years exclusively intended for owners of the new Porsche 911 Turbo 50 Years.
Starting with the most classic, the Porsche Design Chronograph | 50 Years 911 Turbo is based on the first Chronograph from 1972 designed by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche in partnership with Orfina which we have already talked about here several times.
The watch follows the classic design presented here in a titanium case measuring 40.80mm wide by 15.50mm high features a titanium carbide finish that protects it against scratches, sapphire crystal on both sides, a fluted crown at 3 o’clock with the brand’s signature and flanked by two pushers and 100m of water resistance.
On the dial, the traditional layout of three registers at 12-6-9 hours consummated in a 30-minute counter, 12-hour record and a running seconds respectively, a day-date window next to the crown, a concave tachymeter bezel and dedicated red hands.
The flyback chronograph is powered by the WERK 01.240 automatic movement which is COSC-certified and features a rotor shaped like the classic Fuchs rim visible through the open case.
The watch, in addition to the black titanium bracelet also comes with an extra beige textile strap priced at USD 12,000.
Then we have the contemporary version exclusive to customers which also comes in a titanium case but with the Tonneau shape and skeletonized lugs with dimensions of 42mm by 14.90mm, sapphire glass at the front and back, knurled crown and two horizontal pushers and 100m of tightness.
On the black dial are two 30-minute and 12-hour registers at 12 and 6 o’clock, a tiny date window at 4 o’clock and 9 o’clock aperture with spinning blades. The dial comes in two variants, one with white details and the other with green one depending on the chosen version of the Porsche 911 Turbo.
It’s powered by automatic movement WERK 01.200 that reaches 28,800 Vph and offers up to 2 days of power reserve.
The watch comes attached to a black leather strap with stitching and is priced at USD 12,553.
