Porsche Design Chronograph 1 Is Back To Celebrate 75 Years Of The 1st Porsche
This year Porsche celebrates an important milestone in its history the 75th anniversary of its first car, the iconic Porsche 356, and to mark the date Porsche Design has created a limited edition of its Chronograph 1.
Porsche Design, which last year celebrated its 50th anniversary, was the first brand in the world to present a blackout watch with a PVD case, the Porsche Design Chronograph 1, designed by Ferdinand Porsche, who was also responsible for the design of the famous Porsche 911, and produced by Orfina.
The original version of the Chronograph 1 will forever be known not only for its full black case but also for having made its debut on the big screens on Tom Cruise’s wrist in the movie Top Gun.
The new commemorative version of the Chronograph 1, not being a faithful copy of the original, is very similar to it, now appearing in a jet-black Titanium case with dimensions of 40mm wide by 14.15mm thick, smooth bezel, fluted crown with two pushers, sapphire glass on the front and case back and 100m water resistance.
The dial, which remains faithful to the original layout, comes with a tachymeter chapter ring, and three totalizers at 6-9-12 o’clock featuring 12-hour, 60-second and 60-minute counters respectively. On the matte black dial, we can also find a red centre seconds hand and a double day-date window at 3 o’clock that also separates the brand’s modern logo in white above and the brand’s lettering below followed by “Chronometer Certified”.
Inside is the WERK Caliber 01.140 based on the Valjoux 7750 that gives life to the flyback Chronograph, which is COSC certified, presenting an accuracy of +6/-4 seconds per day, operating at 28,800 Vph and offering up to 48 hours of power reserve.
The chronograph is attached to a black fabric strap with a central red stripe that matches the second hand.
This limited edition has a total of 475 pieces that will be available in the brand’s official boutiques and authorized retailers around the world for the price of €9,975.
