Porsche Design And Hodinkee Collaborate On Limited Edition Chronograph 1
Porsche Design founded in 1972 by Ferdinand Alexander was responsible for producing the first watch with a black PVD, the iconic Chronograph 1 developed in partnership with Orfina.
In 2022, on its 50th anniversary, the brand launched a limited edition of the first black timepiece inspired by the original model. It is now replicated in a new limited edition for Hodinkee and arrives with some unique details.
The new Chronograph 1 wears a 40.80mm titanium case that comes with a black titanium carbide that offers greater resistance to scratches and a matte finish, sapphire crystal, fluted crown at 3 o’clock with the brand’s signature and flanked by two pushers, screwed solid titanium case back inscribed with both brands and 100m water resistance.
On the dial, we find the same original layout inspired by the dashboard of old racing Porsches with three registers at 12-6-9 hours substantiated by a 30-minute counter, a 12-hour sub-dial and a running seconds respectively, baton hour markers and hands filled with dark beige Super-LumiNova, two day-date windows next to the crown available in two languages - English and Japanese, accompanied by the brand’s retro logo and lettering, and finally, a red chronograph centre seconds hand matching the discreet “H” of Hodinkee at 6 o’clock.
Unlike previous editions powered by Calibers 7750 and Lemania 5100, the expenses of the new one are delivered to the Werk 01.140 automatic movement which is COSC-certified operating 28,800 Vph and offering up to 2 days of power reserve.
The watch is attached to a titanium bracelet matching the case, a limited edition of 350 pieces, with the first 100 being made available by Hodinkee and the remaining by Porsche Design for USD 9,650.
