Paulin Mara: A Professional Dive Watch With Bold Design

Paulin Watches, the Glasgow-based brand known for its distinctive approach to typography and color, has introduced its first professional-grade dive watch: the Paulin Mara. Taking its name from the Scots Gaelic word for “of the sea,” the Mara combines the brand’s graphic-driven design language with the technical specifications required of a true tool watch.

Case and Bezel

The Mara’s case is a refined evolution of Paulin’s earlier Modul design, now with sharper angles and a more technical feel. Measuring 39.70 mm in diameter, 13.50 mm thick, and 48 mm lug-to-lug, the stainless steel case balances compact proportions with robust construction. The alternating brushed and polished finishes highlight the geometry of the design.

A 120-click unidirectional bezel, crafted from domed sapphire with Super-LumiNova markings printed on the underside, is offered in grey or blue. Slightly overhanging the case, the bezel is designed for improved grip, even with gloves. Paired with a screw-down crown, the watch achieves a 300-meter water resistance rating, making it suitable for serious underwater use.

Dial and Hands

The Mara is available in two dial colors — deep black or vivid blue — both designed with clarity at the forefront. Large geometric hour markers and bold numerals at 6 and 12 o’clock are paired with a clean minute track, while all indices are printed in relief and coated with Super-LumiNova for strong low-light visibility.

The hands follow a broad, legible design, complemented by a lollipop seconds hand with a colored tip that brings a subtle touch of playfulness. The dials are made in Germany from lacquered brass and feature Paulin’s signature ‘Wim’ typeface, underscoring the brand’s identity.

Movement

At the heart of the Mara is the La Joux-Perret G101 automatic movement in its soigné grade. Beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, it delivers reliable accuracy and a 68-hour power reserve — a performance-oriented caliber that remains cost-efficient while offering durability for daily wear.

Straps

Each Mara is delivered with two strap options, a custom-moulded HNBR rubber strap for active and aquatic use, and a Tide fabric strap, produced from recycled fishing nets, lined with Italian Alcantara, and hand-stitched in Glasgow by anOrdain’s seamstress. Both straps are designed to be easily interchangeable, enhancing the versatility of the watch.

Availability and Price

The Paulin Mara will be available starting 22 August 2025 at 4 PM BST, priced at USD 1,650 (excluding VAT). While not a limited edition, production numbers will remain deliberately small.
