Patek Philippe Unveils The First Cubitus Perpetual Calendar Skeleton
At Watches and Wonders 2026, Patek Philippe expands its modern Cubitus collection with its first Grand Complication, unveiling the new Cubitus Perpetual Calendar Skeleton Ref. 5840P-001. Crafted in platinum and powered by a newly adapted shaped movement, this latest release introduces one of the manufacture’s most prestigious complications into its bold square-inspired sports watch design.
The new reference represents several milestones for the Cubitus line, becoming the first perpetual calendar model, the first skeletonized execution, and, perhaps most importantly, the first Cubitus fitted with a movement specifically shaped to complement the architecture of the case.
Platinum Case with Signature Cubitus Proportions
The watch preserves the distinctive Cubitus design language introduced with the collection, characterized by its strong square profile softened by rounded edges and an integrated bracelet aesthetic. The platinum case measures 45 mm in diameter and remains impressively slim for a Grand Complication, coming in at only 10 mm thick.

Even with the added mechanical complexity of a perpetual calendar, the increase in thickness is minimal, allowing the watch to retain the sleek and contemporary presence that defines the collection.
As is customary for platinum timepieces from Patek Philippe, the case is adorned with a discreet signature detail: a baguette-cut diamond set into the bezel at 6 o’clockegve yet unmistakable mark of the noble metal.
Skeletonized Dial Showcasing the Perpetual Calendar Display
The most visually striking feature of the new Cubitus is undoubtedly its openworked dial design.
For this release, Patek Philippe reinterprets the collection’s signature horizontally embossed dial motif by partially opening the surface through laser-cut sections, offering a direct view into the mechanics beneath. This approach creates a strong architectural look while preserving the unmistakable Cubitus identity.

The perpetual calendar indications are arranged in a highly symmetrical layout across three subdials. At 9 o’clock, the display combines the day of the week with a 24-hour indicator, while the 3 o’clock counter integrates the month display together with the leap year indication. Completing the layout, the subdial at 6 o’clock presents both the date and the moon phase display, creating a balanced and harmonious composition across the dial.
A particularly notable feature is the oversized moon phase aperture, which stands out as one of the most distinctive elements of the watch. Unlike more conventional dual-moon displays, this execution features a single large moon rendered in a highly realistic style. The moon is produced using laser engraving and black metallization, giving it a refined and almost photographic appearance.
First Shaped Movement for the Cubitus Collection
Inside the new reference is the Caliber 28-28 Q SQU, a self-winding perpetual calendar movement developed specifically for the Cubitus case.
This marks a major technical evolution for the collection, as previous Cubitus models relied on round movements. Here, Patek Philippe adapts its renowned ultra-thin perpetual calendar architecture into a caliber whose bridges now follow the contours of the case, creating a more integrated design.
The movement is based on the highly respected Caliber 240 Q, a historic foundation that has powered several important perpetual calendar references from the manufacture over the years.

Technically, the movement offers a 48-hour power reserve and operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. It is equipped with Patek Philippe’s Gyromax balance and Spiromax balance spring, solutions known for their precision and reliability. The self-winding system is driven by a micro-rotor, helping preserve the watch’s elegant thin profile.
Visually, the caliber is finished in a refined rhodium-plated monochrome tone, which contrasts beautifully with the heat-blued screws. The micro-rotor itself features hand-engraved Calatrava decoration enhanced by blue lacquer accents, adding an artisanal touch to the movement.
Another particularly refined detail is the use of transparent sapphire jewel settings instead of traditional red rubies, reinforcing the movement’s monochromatic and contemporary aesthetic.
Viewed through the sapphire caseback, the shaped architecture of the caliber becomes even more evident, with the openworked bridges revealing extensive hand-finished anglage and meticulous decorative finishing.
