Patek Philippe Calatrava Chronograph Pilot Travel Time: A Khaki Green Masterpiece
Pilot’s watches are today a reference among many watchmaking brands, some due to historical connections by supplying the armed forces, others because they bring back the glamour associated with the spirit of adventure and discovery from other times.
The new Patek Philippe Calatrava Chronograph Pilot Travel Time is a good example of this, featuring a classic design and combining two of the most appreciated complications among aficionados, the chronograph function and a second Time-Zone.
The new ref. 5924G-010 which is now available was introduced last year, housed in a white gold case and a khaki green lacquered dial that joins the previous ref. 5924G-001 in the same material but with a sunburst blue-grey dial.
The imposing watch wears a round case with dimensions of 42mm in diameter and 13.05mm in thickness and which comes with a polished finish, smooth bezel, sapphire glass, fluted crown at 3 o’clock with the brand’s signature, two pushers, screwed sapphire case back and 30m water resistance.
The busy dial features a Bi-Compax layout with two symmetrical registers at 12 and 6 o’clock, with the top one providing the date and the bottom one a 60-minute counter, big applied Arabic numerals which, like the type-cathedral hands come filled with Super-LumiNova that glows turquoise in the dark, an extra skeletonized hand responsible for a second time-zone that is normally used as home time and a chronograph centre seconds hand that works in partnership with the railroad minute/second track designed in white along the edges.
At its heart, we find the Manufactured CH 28-520 C FUS automatic movement with 370 components and 34 jewels equipped with a flyback chronograph that runs 28,800 Vph and offers a power reserve between 45 to 55 hours. Highlight the 21k gold rotor that is engraved with the brand’s seal and decorated with Côtes de Genève stripes.
The watch is attached to a vintage-looking olive calfskin strap with white stitching with a clevis prong buckle and it is available now in the brand’s official boutiques and authorized retailers for a price of €77,250.
