Parmigiani Fleurier Unveils The Tonda PF Sport Chronograph In Ultra-Cermet

Parmigiani Fleurier continues to push the boundaries of material science in high horology with the debut of the Tonda PF Sport Chronograph Ultra-Cermet—a timepiece that introduces a groundbreaking case material engineered for performance, precision, and resilience.

A New Case Standard: Ultra-Cermet

At the heart of this new chronograph is Ultra-Cermet, a proprietary composite that merges the structural advantages of ceramics and metals. Developed over a three-year research and development phase, this material is characterized by its exceptional surface hardness (1450 Vickers) and superior scratch resistance. Its composition involves a fine-tuned alloy that combines the temperature resistance and surface strength of ceramic with the mechanical workability of metal.

This fusion results in a case that is both lightweight and extremely durable, with a thermal conductivity profile suitable for high-performance applications—a property borrowed from its use in aerospace and advanced engineering environments. Visually, Ultra-Cermet offers a muted grey tone and a dynamic reflectivity, producing a subtle metallic sheen that evolves with light.

Case Architecture and Dimensions

The chronograph is housed in a 42.5mm case constructed entirely from Ultra-Cermet, including the bezel, crown, pushers, and pin buckle. With a thickness of 13.3mm, the watch maintains a relatively slim profile for an integrated chronograph operating at a high frequency. The architecture includes 72 components, finely finished with alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces, and remains water-resistant to 100 meters.

Despite the material shift, the watch retains the Tonda PF identity, notably through the fluted bezel and ergonomically contoured case flanks. The screw-down crown and chronograph pushers are also crafted from Ultra-Cermet, ensuring uniform durability across all exterior contact points.

Dial and Display Details

The vertically brushed dial is finished with a 9-carat gold-nickel “blackor” treatment, lending it a sophisticated yet restrained tone that aligns with the grey hue of the case. Two variations are available, distinguished by either Milano Blue or London Grey sub-dials, offering subtle contrast within a monochromatic palette.

18k gold hour markers and delta-shaped openworked hands are blackor-plated and coated with Super-LumiNova, ensuring legibility in low-light conditions. The display is symmetrical, with no date window, preserving visual balance and allowing the dial’s texture to remain uninterrupted. Parmigiani’s PF logo appears in relief at 12 o’clock.

Movement and Technical Performance

Visible through a sapphire exhibition caseback is Parmigiani Fleurier’s Calibre PF070, a fully integrated automatic chronograph movement. Comprising 288 components, this calibre operates at 5 Hz (36,000 vibrations per hour) and delivers a 65-hour power reserve. Precision is COSC-certified, ensuring chronometer-grade accuracy.

Key chronograph architecture includes a column wheel and vertical clutch, both known for enabling smooth pusher feel and precise chronograph engagement. Finishing details include hand beveling, Côtes de Genève striping, and a 22k skeletonized gold rotor, highlighting the brand’s commitment to both performance and traditional decoration.

Strap Configuration

Each variant of the Tonda PF Sport Chronograph Ultra-Cermet is paired with a textured rubber strap that matches the dial tone—Milano Blue or London Grey. The strap integrates seamlessly with the case and is secured with an Ultra-Cermet pin buckle, maintaining material consistency throughout the watch.
