Yesterday, June 1st, Oris celebrated its 119th anniversary and, as usual, presented a new Hölstein edition that celebrates the date.
This year, Oris chooses its steel Aquis model to give life to the Hölstein 2013 edition, which brings two innovations, the most obvious being its notorious sunburst purple dial, a hue that until now was non-existent in the brand collections and which, according to the brand had been requested by many fans. The second novelty is the absence of the date window on the dial, which almost goes unnoticed and is a complete first for the Aquis collection.
This really is a special edition and all the purple immensity that gives life to the watch does not end on the dial, as if you turn the watch upside down you will find a printed image of the Oris bear in scuba gear wearing a purple sweater and diving in purple water.
The new Aquis thus wears a case measuring 41.5mm in diameter, 13mm thick and 48mm lug-to-lug distance, unidirectional bezel with grey ceramic insert, sapphire front glass, screw-down crown with crown guards, screwed case Back with engraved individual numbering and 300m of water resistance.
Under the new tone of the dial, we can find applied hour markers and hour and minute hands all filled with white Super-LumiNova that matches the brand’s lettering at 12 o’clock and the three lines of text at 6 o’clock headed with the inscriptions “Aquis”, followed by “30 Bar / 300m” and “5 Days” referring to water resistance and power reserve respectively.
Inside, as you would expect, we find the powerful Caliber 400 with an automatic movement that operates at 28,800 Vph and 120 hours of power reserve already announced on the dial.
The new Aquis Hölstein is attached to a 3-link steel bracelet and is offered in a special wooden box with a 10-year warranty.
This limited edition of just 250 pieces is already available in the brand’s official boutiques and authorized retailers and can be purchased for €4,000.
Every year we wait for the surprise that Oris prepares for us on its anniversary and this year, as usual, it did not disappoint, although we are not big fans of purple dials, it fits like a glove in this commemorative edition, and if there is an adjective that describes the watch brand Oris we would say that “cool” goes very well thanks to all their versatility that allows them to be dressed up or down, as they are fun and elegant timepieces at the same time.
But it would be unfair to say that all the greatness of the watch is exhausted in its vivid dial, as it adds much more, we cannot forget that at its heart beats the robust In-house Caliber 400, which comes with enviable precision and high resistance to magnetic fields, which already makes it one of the flagships of the brand.
