Oris Brings Back the Spirit of the 90s with the new Full Steel Worldtimer Hölstein Edition
First introduced two years ago, Oris Hölstein Editions has so far had two editions, the first in 2020 with a bronze edition of its Divers Sixty-Five and the second in 2021 with a special edition of its Big Crown pilot’s watch, this year’s edition, which is also the third Hölstein iteration, now comes in the form of a much lesser-known Oris model, the Oris Full Steel Worldtimer from the ’90s.
The option for this “distant” model in time, according to those responsible for the brand, is due to the fact that in the 90s we were much freer because we were not so connected and we had more reasonable expectations in relation to society as a whole, so Oris through this watch tries to embody these values and bring back that more balanced time.
The watch is a faithful reproduction of its 1998 Worldtimer, with an unconventional design for today, which essentially stands out for its 36.5mm case and two pusher buttons positioned at 4 and 8 o’clock. The dial, which now comes in dark blue tones with sunburst subdials, has exactly the same layout as in the past, a minute inner ring, applied Arabic hour markers, and central-local time, which can be set using the two pushers with increments of one hour forward or backward, additionally, a home-time sub-dial at 3 o’clock, a date window at 6 o’clock and a small seconds at 9 o’clock.
On the outside, as its name implies, it comes with a stainless steel case, smooth bezel, crown with the brand’s signature at 3 o’clock with crown guards, case back engraved with Oris bear in the centre, in addition to the inscriptions “Hölstein Edition” and individual numbering. The watch is offered on a three-link steel bracelet with a folding clasp.
Inside, it is powered by the Caliber 690 (based on the ETA 2836-2), curiously the same calibre that equipped the 1998 original and which, until being replaced in 2014 by the Caliber 110, was by far the most complicated movement of the brand and offering the same 38 hours of power reserve at that time.
The watch is already available in the brand’s official boutiques, although limited to 250 units, at a price of CHF 4,000.
