Omega Renews the Speedmaster 57
The renewed Omega Speedmaster 57, which now appears with a slimmer profile, in four different variants and with a new Co-Axial Master Chronometer movement.
The Omega Speedmaster 57, which first appeared in 1957 with the reference CK2915 and for a brief period of time, had its real resurgence in 2013 at Basel World, which was presented in a steel case measuring 41.5mm in diameter by 16.17mm in thickness, steel tachymeter bezel, dial with two registers and broad arrow handset, all supported by the Caliber 9300 automatic movement, which is now updated.
The renewed Speedmaster 57, which maintains the same previous layout, now comes in a smaller and thinner case, measuring 40.5mm by 12.99mm, but everything else remains, namely the steel tachymeter bezel, sapphire crystal, crown engraved with the logo brand at three o’clock, two pushers and 50 meters of water resistance.
It is on the dial that the different variants are distinguished, as there are three new colours, the blue and the green dials come with a sunburst effect while the red dial comes with a rough textured finish. The new variants also feature sub-dials in the same hue as the dials with a circular pattern and black outer rings, applied hour markers and broad arrow handset all filled with Super-LumiNova, a trapeze-shaped date window at 6 o’clock and a black chapter ring.
In addition to the coloured variants, there is also a black variant that comes with a sandwich-grained dial and luminescent beige material.
Inside, as already mentioned, there is a new Caliber 9906 manual movement, returning to the origins, which is Master Chronometer certified with a Co-Axial escapement, operating at 28,800 Vph and offering up to 60 hours of power reserve supported by 2 barrels.
All variants are offered with a stainless steel flat link bracelet or a leather strap matching the dial with the exception of the black version which comes with a brown strap matching the beige tone of the accents.
Prices range from €9,800 to €9,500 for versions with a steel bracelet or leather strap respectively.
Our Opinion
In general, we liked the improvements made, namely the reduction of the case size, the “reintroduction” of manual movement and the new tones of the dials.
Without a doubt, the classic version with the sandwich dial and Faustina accents is one of the variants that we like the most, but the blue version is very pretty and we were not sure if we had to choose which one it would be.
