Omega Adds Reverse Panda Dials To The Speedmaster Moonwatch Lineup
Omega has expanded the Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch collection with two new “Black & White” references, introducing a reverse panda dial configuration to the regular catalog. Available in stainless steel and 18K Moonshine Gold, these models retain the classic Moonwatch architecture while incorporating updated materials and a newly constructed dial.
Dual-Layer Lacquered Dial Construction
The defining feature of the new Speedmaster Moonwatch Black & White is its two-piece lacquered dial. Rather than a traditional single dial plate, Omega uses a layered construction to create enhanced depth and visual contrast.

The primary dial surface is finished in high-gloss black lacquer with a polished, mirror-like appearance. Cut-outs for the chronograph registers reveal a secondary dial plate beneath, executed in an equally glossy white lacquer. This reverse panda layout accentuates the tri-compax chronograph configuration positioned at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock.
Contrasting printed details reinforce the two-tone effect. The main dial features white printed text and a minute track, while the recessed subdials display black numerals and indices. Applied hour markers and hands are finished to match the case material—rhodium-plated on the stainless steel version and rendered in Moonshine Gold on the gold reference. An applied Omega logo completes the dial and indicates the use of sapphire crystals rather than hesalite.
Sapphire Crystals and Ceramic Bezel
Both references are fitted with sapphire crystals on the front and back, allowing visibility of the movement while improving scratch resistance compared to traditional hesalite. This sapphire “sandwich” configuration aligns these models with Omega’s more contemporary Moonwatch offerings.

The bezel also receives a notable material upgrade. In place of the traditional black aluminum insert, Omega equips these models with a black ceramic bezel engraved with a tachymeter scale filled in white enamel. While ceramic bezels have previously been reserved for select precious-metal or two-tone Speedmaster models, its use here introduces a more modern and durable component to the stainless steel Moonwatch lineup. The glossy ceramic surface visually complements the polished lacquer dial while offering enhanced resistance to wear and fading.
Case Dimensions and Proportions
The case preserves the familiar Speedmaster Professional silhouette, measuring 42 mm in diameter and featuring the brand’s signature twisted lyre lugs. Due to the dual-layer dial construction, overall thickness increases slightly compared to standard Moonwatch references, reaching approximately 13.54 mm. The added depth is most apparent in the chronograph registers, which appear more deeply recessed than those found on traditional single-layer dials. Water resistance remains rated at 50 meters, consistent with the Moonwatch Professional specifications.

Calibre 3861 Master Chronometer Movement
Inside the case is Omega’s Calibre 3861, the current-generation Moonwatch movement. This manually wound, cam-operated chronograph offers a power reserve of approximately 50 hours. It incorporates Omega’s Co-Axial escapement, a free-sprung balance, and a silicon balance spring, contributing to increased long-term precision and durability. The movement is certified as a METAS Master Chronometer and is resistant to magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss. Through the sapphire caseback, the movement’s decorative finishing and Geneva waves in arabesque can be observed.

Materials, Availability, and Pricing
The Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch Black & White is offered in two case materials. The stainless steel version is priced at € 10,200, while the 18K Moonshine Gold reference is listed at € 48,600. Both models are part of Omega’s standard catalog and are available now through authorized retailers.

A Modernized Expression of the Moonwatch
Rather than redefining the Speedmaster, the Black & White Moonwatch introduces a series of considered updates through dial construction, materials, and finishing. The combination of a reverse panda dial, ceramic bezel, and sapphire crystals presents a more contemporary expression of the Moonwatch formula while preserving the defining characteristics that have made the Speedmaster Professional one of Omega’s most enduring designs.
