Nomos Tangente 2date Debuts With New DUW4601 Movement
Nomos has introduced the new Tangente 2date, featuring the innovative in-house Caliber DUW4601 movement. This hand-wound movement represents a significant update, replacing the long-serving Caliber Alpha, which has been in use since 2005. The Caliber DUW4601 brings several advancements, including a power reserve of 52 hours—nearly 10 hours more than its predecessor—and operates at 21,600 Vph. The movement, just 2.80mm thick, is also adorned with Glasshütte stripes on the bridges, a hallmark of Nomos’ craftsmanship.
One of the most intriguing features of the new Tangente 2date is its dual-date display. This watch combines two existing complications into a single movement, a first for Nomos. The “Ring Date” function, previously seen on the Metro and Tangente models, is now paired with a traditional date window positioned at the bottom of the dial. This unique combination of complications sets the Tangente 2date apart in the world of luxury timepieces.
The Tangente 2date’s case is another highlight, crafted from stainless steel and measuring 37.50mm in diameter. This marks a departure from previous models with the ring date system, which was only available in 41mm. The watch is 6.75mm thick with an open case back and measures 49mm in length, which, while slightly larger due to its straight, angled lugs, ensures a bold wrist presence. The flat sapphire crystal, fluted crown at 3 o’clock, and 50m water resistance make it both stylish and functional. Buyers can choose between a solid case back or a sapphire glass back, both offering a sleek design profile.
In terms of aesthetics, the Tangente 2date offers two dial options: a silver-plated version with black printings and a sunray-brushed blue dial with white printings. The layout features printed hour markers and Arabic numerals, with a recessed small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock. Just below this subdial is a trapezoidal date window—red for the silver dial option and white for the blue version—adding a distinctive visual element. The date ring is visible through peripheral cutouts, creating a modern yet timeless design.
The Tangente 2date is finished with a Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan black leather strap, complete with a steel pin buckle, reinforcing its luxurious appeal. The pricing reflects its craftsmanship and innovation, starting at €2,360 for the solid case back option and €2,580 for the sapphire glass back version.
While the novelty of housing two date displays is certainly innovative, it remains unclear what practical benefits this feature brings to the user beyond its aesthetic appeal. The dual-date display adds a unique touch, but its true value seems to lie more in design innovation than functional utility. For watch enthusiasts, the Nomos Tangente 2date is a perfect blend of tradition and creativity, making it a standout addition to any collection.
