Nivada Grenchen Revives 70s Chronosport With Modern Touch
It was in the 70s that Nivada Grenchen created a prototype of a chronograph of around 20 units for no sale which quickly became one of the most sought-after among collectors. Today the brand relaunches the Chronosport 38mm, which is a vintage revival of the original one.
The retro watch arrives in a stainless steel case with a beautiful textured black Bi-Compax dial in two variants designed by the talented Jean Singer also responsible for creating the Omega Speedmaster Racing and the Heuer Skipper.
Housed in a Tonneau-shaped steel case 38mm wide by 15.70mm high, features a mainly brushed finish, faceted bevels, a black unidirectional aluminium bezel, sapphire crystal, fluted crown at 3 o’clock engraved with the logo brand, two recessed pushers, screwed solid case back and 200m of waterproofing.
The black sandblasted dial comes with two embossed khaki registers consisting of a 30-minute counter at 12 o’clock and a running seconds counter at 9 complemented by a date window with white background at 3. Applied baton hour markers with pip-lume dots and hands all filled with white or yellow Super-LumiNova, a tachymeter inner bezel that works in partnership with the chronograph centre seconds hand and the brand’s white logo and Paul Newman Art Deco Typography.
Powering it is the 25-jewel Valjoux-7750-ETA automatic movement, which here comes without a 12-hour counter and day window, featuring a bi-directional rotor, hacking seconds, manual winding, running at 28,800 Vph and offering up to 42 hours of power reserve.
The brand offers 10 strap options for the watch, including a steel bracelet, leather or rubber straps.
The pre-order period begins on July 25th and lasts one month with all watches coming with individual numbering. After this period, the watch becomes part of the permanent collection and will no longer come with individual numbering. Delivery is scheduled for October and the watch is priced at € 2,035.
