Nivada Grenchen F77 MKII 100 Years: A New Chapter For A 1970s-Inspired Icon
Nivada Grenchen is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a new chapter for one of its most recognisable contemporary models, the F77 MKII. Originally inspired by the integrated sports watches of the 1970s, the F77 has become an important part of the brand’s modern identity since its return in 2020.
Following the introduction of the redesigned F77 MKII in 2025, Nivada Grenchen is now expanding the collection with six natural stone dials, while simultaneously introducing a new automatic movement from La Joux-Perret. For the centenary, there is also a special edition limited to just 100 pieces.
The new F77 MKII retains the compact proportions and distinctive angular architecture that define the model, but the combination of new dial materials and a more powerful movement gives this latest generation a slightly different character.
A compact 1970s-inspired case
The F77 MKII continues with a 38 mm stainless-steel case, a size that preserves the sporty character of an integrated-bracelet watch without becoming excessive on the wrist.
Its design remains strongly rooted in the 1970s, with an angular case profile, an octagonal bezel and carefully contrasting finishing. Vertical brushing is combined with polished surfaces, highlighting the geometry of the case and creating different reflections as the watch moves.

One of the more important changes comes in the dimensions. The new F77 MKII measures 11.50 mm thick, including its double-domed sapphire crystal, compared with 12.20 mm for the previous version. The reduction may appear modest on paper, but it contributes to a more comfortable overall profile.
The familiar 6mm crown sits at 3 o’clock, while water resistance remains rated at 100 metres.
For the first time on the F77 MKII, the caseback is also open. The sapphire exhibition caseback provides a view of the new automatic movement and carries a special engraving commemorating Nivada Grenchen’s 100th anniversary.
Natural stone dials
The biggest visual change comes from the dials. Rather than relying exclusively on conventional surfaces, Nivada Grenchen is introducing six natural stones into the permanent F77 MKII collection.
The selection includes Azurite, Labradorite, Jade, Black Opal, Shungite Black and Smoky Quartz, with each dial bringing its own naturally occurring texture and colour variations.

Azurite is characterised by intense blue tones and irregular mineral formations, ensuring that no two surfaces will have exactly the same appearance. Labradorite takes a darker approach, with deep blue-grey tones that can reveal flashes of iridescence depending on how the light hits the stone.
Jade introduces a rich green colour and a comparatively smoother organic appearance, while Black Opal offers perhaps the most dramatic combination of colours. Its dark base can reveal blue, green, red and violet flashes, creating a constantly changing surface.
For something more discreet, Shungite Black offers a deep matte appearance with subtle natural texture. Smoky Quartz, meanwhile, moves towards warmer brown and grey tones.

There is also a special Ice Agate version created specifically for the centenary. Its pale blue-and-white layered appearance gives the anniversary model a considerably lighter visual identity, while production is limited to just 100 pieces.
Because these are genuine natural stones, variations in colour, pattern and texture are part of the character of each individual watch.
A deliberately simple dial layout
Despite the elaborate materials used for the new dials, the F77 remains mechanically and visually straightforward.
The watch displays hours, minutes and central seconds, with no date window interrupting the dial.

Openworked baton-style hands are combined with faceted applied hour markers, while small Super-LumiNova dots are positioned around the outer portion of the dial to provide low-light legibility.
This restrained layout is particularly important with the stone dials, allowing the natural patterns to remain the visual focus without adding unnecessary elements.
La Joux-Perret G101 with 68-hour power reserve
Underneath the anniversary engraving and sapphire caseback is the most significant technical change to the F77 MKII.
Nivada Grenchen has replaced the previous Soprod P024 automatic movement with the La Joux-Perret G101.
The G101 is a no-date automatic calibre derived from the G100 family and was developed as an alternative to movements such as the ETA 2824-2 and Sellita SW200-1. Its most immediately noticeable advantage for the F77 is its power reserve.

The movement provides approximately 68 hours of autonomy, a considerable increase over the 42 hours offered by the previous Soprod P024.
Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), the G101 features a tungsten rotor for unidirectional automatic winding and a KIF anti-shock system. Its relatively compact architecture also contributes to the slimmer 11.50 mm profile of the new F77 MKII.
For a watch with a relatively simple three-hand display, the movement upgrade is therefore meaningful both technically and practically.
Integrated bracelet and alternative straps
The stainless-steel integrated bracelet remains an essential part of the F77’s identity. Its design follows the angular character of the case, creating a continuous transition between the watch head and bracelet.
The clasp incorporates tool-free micro-adjustment, allowing the wearer to make small changes to the fit without requiring additional tools.
For those who prefer a different character, Nivada Grenchen also offers the F77 MKII with a canvas Velcro strap or a black rubber strap. These alternatives give the same 38 mm case a more casual and utilitarian appearance while retaining its distinctive 1970s-inspired architecture.
Availability and price
The six permanent natural-stone F77 MKII models will be available from 24 September, priced at € 1,660 on a strap and € 1,870 on the stainless-steel bracelet. The Ice Agate centenary edition is limited to 100 pieces.
